I have long, fine hair with blonde highlights. Because it's so fine, it gets oily and limp if I don't wash it everyday. I went to the salon this weekend, and my colorist said I really should be washing it every other day at most, to keep my highlights looking their best. The past few days I've tried the every other day thing, and my hair is so gross! Oily, limp -- yuk. Does it just need to adjust to less washing? I use a sulfate-free shampoo recommended by my colorist, if that matters.
How often do others wash their hair? I understand a few times a week for those with dry or thicker hair, but what about those of us challenged in the volume department? |
Every other day. On the days when I don't wash it, I just get it wet and apply product as usual. But my hair is thick & full & curly & on the dry side - so very different from yours! |
About twice a week. I have very dry hair and skin and it's the most my hair can handle without turning into a frizz bomb. |
I have similar hair as yours, and I have to wash it every day. I'd love it if I could go longer between to help preserve the highlights, but that is a no go for me. Plus, I am a sweaty mess when I exercise, so a shower with a hair wash is essential for me after that! |
Every day, pretty much. It's just an oil slick if I don't and my scalp starts to itch. Sometimes on the weekend if I'm not going anywhere important I'll use Oscar Blandi dry shampoo. But for weekdays I must wash it to look presentable and feel comfortable with my appearance (at work). I have blonde slightly wavy hair, medium texture. I'm 43. I also have very oily skin. Both of these (oily hair and skin) are a good thing, though, because most people think I'm much younger (35 or so). |
yes, your hair will adjust. The oil glands go into over-drive when you wash everyday. I am at the point where I can go 2-3 days between if I wanted. It's especially helpful if you've just gotten it done etc. |
Could you use dry shampoo? |
I have similar hair, I go every other day. It was a hard habit to break. I use dry shampoo or wear it pulled back on the second day. |
I'm like you. Plus my scalp itches. |
Every other day, roughly.
Try a dry shampoo. |
I feel gross and greasy if I don't wash every day. Dry shampoo doesn't help! I've just decided to choose washing every day over expensive hair colouring |
Used to shampoo every day. Eventually got it to every other day. It is a tough transition. And I do think that my hair would be happier with 36 hours than 48. The exception is that I can go longer after I have been to the salon.
I have super straight, fine textured yet thick hair. What helps for me: * Moroccan Hair Oil. Counter-intuitive, but putting this oil on from the ears down somehow keeps my hair feeling cleaner. * sometimes I'll use a volumizing mousse, which can also help keep it from looking too greasy on day two, probably b/c it is giving it a little bit of lift and texture. * Dry shampoo. I prefer Salon Grafix to Tresemme. Have not been able to get my hands on Psst, which is supposed to be the best (and cheapest). Second day hair frequently ends up pulled back: half up, or a ponytail. |
When I used to go every other day- maybe for a few months- my hair was oily and I got dandruff. It didn't seem to adjust and I stopped. What could I do to try again? I use head and shoulder now often... |
I have the same kind of hair and it does get oily if I don't wash it everyday. However, I found that Cibu's Dry Kwon Do dry shampoo works really well and smells great. Also, I can get by with less washings during the winter when I'm not as sweaty. |
I wash my hair every day. Most stylists will tell you not to do this, but I have fairly thick and healthy hair, and others have told me to continue washing daily since it's in good shape.
My head gets extremely sweaty when I exercise, and often in the summer, so I can't imagine not washing the sweat out. I've tried just rinsing, but that seems to make the texture more greasy and gross than if I skipped a day altogether. |
