I gained 10lbs during covid on my already small frame. I went from 105 lbs to 115 lbs. Despite eating mostly healthy and running a mile most days and going for lots of walks. I am teetering between 113 - 115. I can't seem to move it down further.
Despite starving myself...I don't know what else to do! |

Find a strength training program, or look up some HIIT workouts.
Running and walking are great exercises, but if you've been doing them for a while, they may not be best for losing weight. In fact, personally, for me, running has the opposite effect. I find myself extremely hungry and tired after a run. So I end up spending the rest of the day "recovering" from the run by sitting around and snacking. It's no good. My healthiest is always when I spend 20-30 minutes strength training, and then a HIIT finisher |

How old are you? I'm middle aged, a bit taller than you, and losing weight at my age is super hard.
Lift weights, run more and reduce calories more. I think that's the only thing at this point that *may* help. |

You at still in a healthy BMI. I'm 5'0" and I understand that every pound counts, but this is vanity weight.
You'd have to cut out alcohol, run more than one mile. Running a mile really doesn't burn much calories. You need to work out hard for at least an hour, plus cut sugar/alcohol. You didn't mention your age, but if you are over 45, this may just be your new normal. You are not overweight. |
I am 34. I think I am mostly healthy. A sample day of eating is as follows: - Breakfast - steel cut oats with almond milk, chia and flaxseed and fruit - cup of coffee with small amount of creamer lunch - protein smoothie or - sandwich of some sort or leftovers from dinner the night before dinner - baked salmon with veggies and rice or -chicken with veggies and rice or -chicken and veggies or -lentil soup Take out once or twice a week |

Cabbage, clearly eat a ton of cabbage. Why cabbage? Low in calories and great nutrient-dense food with a lot of volume. Ok, that is just my preference, but of course, don't just cabbage.
Another way, and an easy way at that, is to start walking some 15K steps every single day. Even if you don't change your eating habits you will lose weight and pretty fast. You are clearly not overeating that much if you only put on 10lbs in a year and more. Unless you are eating upward of 3000 calories, walking will take care of it if you keep your diet the same. |
People are always posting these kinds of menus with no portions. Clearly something is too much. |

I do warn against lowering your calories too much. You are short and apps will tell you to eat 1200 or less. You will lose muscle mass and it will be harder and harder to lose weight, and you will find it a battle against all odds. Truly move more, you are not that overweight, you are in your 30s hence your are not menopausal. Do not make the mistake of lowering your calories too much.
I did that and now it seems that at 5'4" I should eat 1200 calories just not to gain weight! I am 50, so there is that, but do not start super low calories that young. I truly think that you are better off eating the same calories but moving more. |
I think the assumption is that you don't need to post portions because this is such a sad, flavorless way to eat, you'd have to be really determined to overeat your way into 10 extra pounds with a diet like this. But LOL at "takeout once or twice a week." I imagine that's where the too much is. Especially if that "sandwich of some sort" is from Potbelly. |
Not enough protein. Add eggs to your breakfast |
| Are you pregnant? |
Don't know what the takeout is, but if you are eating this stuff for the rest of the week, then I'd go see a doctor. Maybe you've got a thyroid problem, or maybe you are pregnant and don't know it. Starving yourself is absolutely the wrong idea. |
I guess there's no harm in seeing a doctor, but the simplest explanation is probably the correct one: she's just not burning enough calories. If she's consistently run one mile (which, no judgement, but isnt really that much and doesnt burn as many calories as you really think), her body has likely adjusted to that level of exercise and it takes her less output to complete that task. She should start a brand new exercise routine, using bodyweight movements (lunges, squates, push/pull ups, etc). Assisted if need be. And a lot can be accomplished with only 1 or 2 dumbbells. I see a lot of people that think they are working harder than they really are, and then overeating bc they think they've worked so hard. |
This all sounds "healthy" but you don't mention portions or calories. Take out calories can also add up quickly and when you are short/small to begin with you have even less wiggle room in your diet Even healthy foods have calories and in order to lose weight you absolutely need to focus on diet. If you gained 10 lbs in the past year you were clearly overeating/calories were sneaking in somewhere. I know for me I gained weight working from home because I was snacking a lot more. Track everything you consume and figure out where you can cut back. |
| Drink inulin (1/2 tsp) in a glass of water 30 minutes before lunch and dinner. Watch the weight melt off. |
