Rhonda here: OMAD is working for me but I decided to try some longer fasts. Last week I did a 36 and this week a 42. I’m going to do another 36-42 tomorrow. They were surprisingly easy after being OMAD with a 22:2 window for 2.5 weeks. I don’t think I’ll go true 4:3 ADF but trying 2 down days, 2 up days, and the rest OMAD for now.

This doesn’t sound healthy.

NP here and also would like to join in. I've IF with great results in the past, but I started eating 3 meals a day during covid. I returned to 16:8 fast on 5/11, so today is Day 7 for me. I was 149.2 on Day 1 and 145.8 this morning. I hit 151 for the first time the week prior. Agree that it's probably mostly water weight but I think that I've lost a little fat as well.

My goal weight is 135 to allow some cushion for weight gain.

Day 8 and I was 144.8 this morning!

Update. Day 13 and I'm at the same weight. However, I'm happy considering our activity level took a nosedive. Found out we were exposed to someone covid positive so we're stuck indoors and awaiting test results. Haven't been as vigilant about my diet, though its still pretty healthy.

Day 24. After creeping up at 146 for a week, I'm back down to 144 this week. My birthday was last week so I took it easy for a few days.

It's not. PP has an eating disorder and is trying to hide it behind IF. No one who promotes a healthy lifestyle would say what PP is doing is healthy

Is anyone here doing IF purely for health reasons and not fitness or weight loss?

30s F here just starting IF due to autoimmune symptoms. I’ve heard women should do 14 or 15 hrs of fasting rather than 16.

Rhonda: read Delay Don’t Deny by Gin Stephens. I’m feeling great, better energy than before, losing slow and steady. I go for an hour long walk everyday. My skin is starting to clear up. I have never had an eating disorder unless you count overeating.

I know someone who has been doing this for years. He eats a lot in that one meal. It's really easy to put down 1500 in one sitting.

I love doing the longer fasts, but it is difficult with two teenage girls and a husband in the house. For one, I don't want the girls to get the wrong idea. We eat dinner together, so if I wasn't eating they'd notice and get upset. DH also doesn't like when I fast. I don't do it often, but when I do, they all think I'm nuts.

DP.

One meal a day is probably the only way I will lose weight and keep it off. Prior to IF, I easily ate 1200 calories in one meal. And I ate 2 of such meals (1200 for lunch and 1200 for dinner) and around 400 calories for breakfast.

My IF diet is:

1. nothing until lunch around 11:00 am-noon, then
2. fruits and veggies only for lunch and
3. my big meal for dinner.

It seems to be working so far. I need to maintain this diet forever. It's much easier than trying to eat a tiny bit several times a day.

NP "Iffy". I started IF (usually 20:4) in January. I lost 20 lbs. by April but I have about 10 more to go to reach 27 BMI. However, I plateaued in early April and haven't lost or gained since. What should I do to kickstart the weightloss? If I just wait it out will I eventually start to lose again?

Your body mass has gone down ... has your intake of calories also gone down? If you weight 20 pounds less you'll burn fewer calories when exercising and need fewer calories to survive at a particular weight.

YES! Once I start eating it is like a free for all. I find it easier just to delay my eating until lunch or the afternoon and I just simply don't eat as much.

Charlotte here! On day ten of really sticking with it, and I am down 3.3 lbs. I started at 195.9 for reference. I am also doing at least 10,000 steps a day. I take a walk every day alone with a podcast and it’s doing my mental health a lot of good too. I am not a huge breakfast person, so I am surviving fine with just coffee and cream. I am making an effort to drink loads of water too.

Drop the cream in the coffee if you want a clean fast and not spike insulin.

Counterpoint - if it's working for her and she's happy with the results, then she should continue doing what she's doing.
