Intermittent Fasting Thread

Charlotte here...a few days ago I had my first “whoosh” and lost 3.4 lbs overnight after holding pretty steady for a week. So far it has stayed off. Very motivating! Coming up on four full weeks of IF and making my 10,000 steps a day and I’m down just about 10 lbs.

Congrats- what plan are you using? 16:8? I just read Delay don't Deny and she says to not weigh in for the first 28 days- that the first 4 weeks are more an adjustment period than weight loss period. I just started and feel like I must be losing some weight as I'm hungry a bit and then don't overeat when I'm in the eating zone.

Charlotte here! I didn’t follow that rule about weigh-ins for the first 28 days...I naturally did IF for my entire pre-kids adult life before I realized it was a thing and so I didn’t think I needed much of an adjustment period! And I immediately saw results and it has been super motivating for me. The key is definitely looking at the weekly average rather than daily fluctuations. I’m at 12.2 lbs down since May 24! I aim for 16:8 every day, but it ends up being a 4-6 hour eating window during the week and I roll with it. I am more flexible and do the full 8 hour window at the weekend. I also try to get 10,000 steps in and generally mind my portions. I am definitely still eating carbs and desserts here and there. Good luck to you - I bet you will see results!

Do you feel energized on fast days? How do you explain your eating habits to your kids?

Not the poster of the 47 hour fast, but I can say my kids don't really notice what I'm eating or not. I could say that I'm not hungry for dinner, or have something to do, etc.

Thanks Charlotte! I appreciate the encouragement.

Do you not sit down and eat together as a family?

Phoenix here, checking in after a bit of an absence.

I’ve found it difficult to stick to 18:6 over the past month because my family’s schedules have picked up a bit and are all over the place, time wise. We don’t have a lot going on, but what we do have going on frequently makes it difficult to stick to a 6 hour eating window, which has led to less than a strict adherence to the plan, which has led to a plateau rather than weight loss.

I reined things in this week and immediately saw a 1+ lb payoff. The moral of the story for me is that what seems like just a little erosion around the edges of the plan can really make a difference.

So are you saying you changed your window?

I strictly reset the window back to 6 hours, but the starting time varies by the day now rather than my preferred starting time of noon.

Started 16;8 a couple of days ago and am up 2 lbs??? I don't think I have over consumed during my 8- basically start at noon with eggs and bacon, then fruit, a yogurt in afternoon then dinner steak and potatoes (smallish portions)with salad
I'm seriously hungry until noon, so thought scale would go down.... will stick with it in hopes of a whoosh down.

I've been 16:8 for about 3 1/2 weeks. No change on the scale for a couple weeks, although my belly was noticeably smaller, and now down 5 lbs.

Stick with it!

9 pounds in just under 2 months! Doing 18:6 with a few longer ones mixed in. Also counting calories on MFP. It’s been easy!

What is your calorie goal and what are your stats? I'm on week 3 and no scale change so I must be eating too many calories during my window. Good fro your 9 pounds is significant!
