I take a walk every day alone with a podcast and it’s doing my mental health a lot of good too. I am not a huge breakfast person, so I am surviving fine with just coffee and cream. I am making an effort to drink loads of water too.

Drop the cream in the coffee if you want a clean fast and not spike insulin.

Counterpoint - if it's working for her and she's happy with the results, then she should continue doing what she's doing.

I have coffee with a little milk every morning. “Spiking insulin” sounds alarming, but it isn’t a relevant factor in how I’m doing IF. Fasting 6pm to noon the next day with the exception of that morning coffee, with great results.

I'm in - Karen (no jokes). Been on about a week 16/8. Black coffee in the AM. I don't see much drop yet, but I was away with my kids last week so probably not eating as well as I could. My downfall is the evening wine. Anyone else?

Most evenings, you can find me in the kitchen shoveling ice cream into my mouth at 7:59.

Charlotte here, and I agree - I’m not all that worried about spiking insulin. So far IF has been a great tool to cut out calories without feeling like I’m super deprived and that’s good enough for me. Cream in my coffee doesn’t harm what I (personally) am trying to accomplish.

The clean fast means no black coffee?

The clean fast means no cream or fake sweeteners. Sure they’re low or no calories, but it’s about triggering an insulin release. The brain recognizes food or fake sweeteners and causes an insulin release. That makes you crave more food and makes it harder for you to get through the rest of the fast. Plain sparkling water, green/black tea or black coffee are all fine.

And for some people coffee with milk is what helps get them to noon. I’m really whatever on this. Most people doing it to reset healthy habits and cut back snacking and lose like 5 lbs can handle milk in their coffee if they want it.

I used to only drink coffee with cream and sugar. A few years ago I went to black coffee only until 4pm and my weight finally came down. I drink coffee like medicine - 3 cups per day. There is no pleasure in it aside from the life-sustaining dose of caffeine.

Phoenix here- I had put on a few corona pounds after losing several over the winter. I’m back to my pre-corona weight now and hoping to lose at least 15 more.

I’m also running again after a long hiatus, and actually seem to run “better” in the morning, before I’ve eaten anything.

Charlotte here. IF is still going great for me. I have lost five pounds in the last three weeks since I committed. I have been mindful about portion sizes and trying to err on the healthy side of things, but I'm not depriving myself. I just eat less than I would have in the past.

I had spaghetti carbonara yesterday and thought I would be disappointed by the number on the scale this morning, but I was down another 0.2 pounds. I have never done a daily weigh-in before, but I am tracking it on my Fitbit app and it is really helpful data. There is obviously not a lot of value in the daily fluctuations, but the app gives me each week's average and it's so motivating to see that number go down.

Still getting a 45 minute walk in just about every day. I live in a neighborhood with loads of hills, so it gets the blood flowing. According to my Fitbit, my average resting heart rate has gone down by 7 bpm since I started this! Incredible and, again, really motivating.

Hi - today was day 2 for me. I'll call myself... Phoebe. I have gained a ton of weight during quarantine after losing 20 lbs for the first time in my life last year. Very depressing. But the super low carb diet I did was not sustainable in my regular life, so I am hoping to find something a bit more ... portable for long term. I'm 6'1" and 183 lbs so at the very outer edge of a normal BMI. Would like to re-lose the 20 and maybe 5-10 more, but I won't be greedy.

Oh I also recently became a vegetarian again and it's been hard. (I haven't commented in that other thread, but I'm about to.) My son just randomly decided to become one and I got on board to support him, and now all the COVID/meat processing stories are totally grossing me out so I want to stick with it. But I definitely eat way more carbs than I did when I was veg.
