I missed nothing nor was I particularly thankful for anything because emotionally I didn't connect to anyone in this episode. I find the actress who plays Marnie to be sub-par and self-conscious as a performer, she is OK but I don't ever want to see an entire episode dedicated to her ever again.

The guy who played Charlie was great in it. I can see why he left the show 5 years ago and really think he shouldn't have come back for this.

Showing my age/naiveté, but why was finding the needle a deal breaker for Marni? She knew he was a drug dealer/user before that, right? I thought her whole attitude toward the night was escapism/don't think about tomorrow.

I, too, wonder if there will be a long term consequence to the night for Marni.

I wondered the same thing and really had to suspend my disbelief that she didn't connect the dots during their day together, his behavior, the drug deal at the hotel, etc., or didn't care ~ right down to acting like a prostitute. I'm still SMH at this episode because I have read how so many people think it's the best episode of the series and I thought it was contrived and predictable. The whole night she went along with Charlie's new sketchy life and then took issue with the needle?

I agree. Not a big fan of this episode. From the contrived street meeting to the stupid pretty woman dress thing to stealing the money from the rich guy who thought she was a hooker - all so trite.

I don't think Marnie did know he was a drug dealer. Any reasonable person would have started to question his bizarre actions, but Marnie's self-absorbed. She's not watching what anyone else is doing, she's concentrating on her.

In the vintage store when she was like "I am 25 ... and a half... blah blah blah.... seems unbelievable!" and the clerk was like "oh, no... 25 and a half seems about right." I died. That was good writing and timing.

I'm one of the posters who didn't understand why the needle was a deal breaker, because of course Marni had to have known by then that Charlie was a drug dealer. But after reading the interview with the actress who plays Marni (thanks, pp!), I now understand it better, however, it brought Marni's self-absorption to new heights . Also, it was clear from this week's episode that Marni has not learned/evolved at all, despite what the actress said in her interview - the scene eith Ray was glaring in that regard, and the one with Desi was just a beat behind it. I do love how equally self-absorbed Marni and Hannah are - when they interact, it's like two separate conversations/dramas going on simultaneously.

Can we now shift our observations to how sad it was to visually watch Hannah realize the connection between Adam and Jessa. I actually felt sorry for her for the first time in the show.

ITA. That clerk was perfect. She started out sweet and interested in Marnie, but that rapidly shut down once she heard Marnie's unbelievably self-absorbed monologue. I died too.

Oh, come on! Of course she did. He was hanging with his drug dealing homies when she first ran into him. And then at the hotel, he clearly went to get drugs for the older guy. I just can't understand why none of that bothered her.

YES, to all of the above (from a 47 yr. old woman )!
Loved the scene with Ray when he pretty much shut her down as she was making her grand announcement that she and Desi had split up. Go Ray! Such a class act. I actually love Allison Williams because she portrays the character of Marnie so perfectly. Self-absorbed and completely unaware of it.

I am finding Hannah more and more revolting as the episodes go on (the "Basic Instinct" moment? Are you serious, Lena Dunham???). However, I did feel her pain when she saw Jessa and Adam together. Her face said it all - hurt and lost. I also felt very sorry for her in that moment. I can't fathom what a guy like Fran is doing with her. He is such a rational, level-headed human being and she's such a nutcase. Wake up, Fran!!

Adam is weird as all get-out, but I loved the scene where he kissed Jessa from head to toe. So sweet.

Why did Adam invite them all to see him act and then talk to none of them? The friend group thing is very forced.

Fran would never be attracted to Hannah physically, and he'd be utterly repulsed by her personality.
