To me, Jessa has always been the clear beauty on the show. I love her look, style, and character. |
| The reason the actress playing Jessa looks so good is that she lost the baby weight. She had her 2nd child during filming and was pregnant for part of it (in previous seasons). |
| Lena the child molester? |
Totally agree. The new guy is normal and cute! That would just not happen in real life. |
I think the point is that you totally underestimate character when it comes to men's choices in women. |
Uh, have you seen the show? Her personality on it is terrible. And... In their 20s? When the woman looks like Lena Dunham? And repeatedly lands hot guy after hot guy? |
+1 I usually feel bad criticizing women for their looks/body type, but Lena/Hannah is just outrageously bad. I've seen her look pretty IRL, but she makes herself look as awful as possible on the show. I was cringing during the last episode, as she was nude in nearly every scene. She clearly loves exposing herself, but it's just a horrible look. And agree about the guys she pairs herself with. Someone mentioned something similar awhile back about Mindy Kaling on "The Mindy Project," and how an oversized woman like that would never land all these hot guys. But the difference to me is that Mindy's character actually made the effort to look nice - I found both her looks and her personality to be really attractive. Hannah seems to go out of her way to look and be horrendously unappealing. |
Exactly. Mindy and Lena are probably close to the same size. Mindy is lovely and Lena is disgusting. It isnt anti-women to say that a woman who exposes herself outrageously and blatantly tries look as unattractive as possible is being hypocritical and odd when she pairs her character with guys who are objectively infinitely more attractive than she is. And all of you "woman hear me roar" people who say it's about what's inside, her character is a pretty terrible person. |
| I love Lena's character on Girls. Kind of reminds me of the female protagonist in Prep by Curtis Sittenfeld. Their insides are on their outsides. |
| I thought the Japan episode was excellent. Really well done, and quite funny. The bulk of the writing was fresh and exciting, and I loved seeing more depth from shoshannah's character. I think they also changed Adam's character this season into more of a regular person instead of a complete weirdo. I mean, he's still weird but now skews more normal, if that makes sense. In general I love this show, probably because I'm in my head all the time and because the characters remind me of people I knew in college. The only odd one in this show is Marnie. She doesn't seem to possess the introspective qualities that the others have. And the friendship between her and Hannah is strange. But she's entertaining, so that's something. |
| Loved the Japan episode. Shosh was awesome. And now I have a crush on Japan heartthrob boy. Love Adam. He is a great actor. Loved him on his tv show - the actor acting, so very funny. I like Ray too, I really wanted him to get Marnie. Still could happen once the marriage goes south. |

I kinda sorta hated the Japan episode. I lived in Tokyo in my 20s and the show basically presented this weird fantasy-land stereotype of what Americans must think Japan is like. Group onsen visits (that felt like the group was on a middle school field trip, ha) and fetish bars? Um, no. Tokyo is so much cooler than Lena's sad little version of it. First time I've hated the show.

Did you see the piece after the show and how talked about making it realistic? Maybe your experience was different than Lena's. |
It happens ALL the time that average-looking and ugly guys get paired with hot women. I love that she's flipping that around. |
Can you be more specific? |
