Anyone else experience this when discussing school choice?

Not a minority.

Having multiple children at multiple Independent schools in Dc. And having gone through exmissions/admissions multiple times...as well ,as having attended 3 independent Dc schools myself. I can tell you, that when you see multiple acceptances from multiple competitive schools it is most overwhelmingly a diversity candidate. Please read mission statements.... go big 3 before you comment...is diversity mentioned? I can name at least one school with that clearly stated in mission statement... You are in denial if you think otherwise. For older grades other criteria can tip scale...athletics...get offended all you want!

This may be true but we are not minorities, sorry, would it make you feel better if I lied and said we are?

I do not feel bad, we are at great schools! Just commenting on what I have seen at our schools. The kids that typically get in everywhere typically are qualified and minority. Plenty of qualified kids at our schools and they go to great schools...but the ones that get in everywhere most often can check the diversity box. They know this too. The fact that that you are not diversity candidate tells me you have met another criteria...perhaps phenomenal test scores? Grades? Giving history? Your location? Admissions directors call the exmissions directors to determine interest of candidates they are considering. If you are in outplacement year at a private school the exmissions person is well aware of your top choices in most cases which is why it is rare to get 100 percent acceptance rate. I do not buy that you had 100 percent acceptance coming from a private without a hook. Not buying it. Perhaps you are at public? Most people do not use the phrase minority, the term is diversity.

Never said it was 100%. Just said several.

+1. The school know exactly where you are applying...transcripts and recs.

My take (deduction) couldn't have gotten into multiple schools because of money or athletics because in that case couldn't have seen the envy. Didn't go to a public unless HGC center because no one would ask about which high school DC would attend. If HGC center parents probably wouldn't have had envy either. My guess is smart kid though not considered exceptional by middle school (under the radar) that killed it on standardized tests.

I have had the same thing happen to me right now over K admissions. People are weird and competitive over the littlest thing, like where 5 year olds get into school. Also jealousy, which is human nature. Try to just move on, a real friend would be happy for you.

I have run across many children with multiple acceptances both minority and majority. PP keeps waging the "must have a hook" game whereby only those with hooks can get in.

The shade I continue to get because DS got admitted is laughable- some parents don't speak although when we were all going through admissions, interviews, etc everybody was as thick as thieves, comparing notes, etc. The green eyed monster is a bitch....

You have no idea - there is a very good chance you would be jealous of my own DC's results. I'm just responding to the smug self-pity that oozes out of your post. I make every effort not to sound like you.

Why is it so hard people. If your kid had lots of acceptances, play down and don't brag or be smug. Have empathy for others that didn't do as well (cuz at some point your DC will be on the receiving end of rejections, trust me). If your kid didn't have success this time, be gracious to those that did. It's not a failing or a judgment on your kid or your family, it's a bit of a crapshoot.
