So we all agree that it's a belief? Ideological is an adjective that describes political, cultural, or religious beliefs. So here's the thing -- saying gender identity is an ideological belief is not "wrong" - it's all about the context and perspective. If you are referring to gender identity based on political, cultural, or religious beliefs...then yes, it is a ideological belief. |
So based on your political, cultural, or religious beliefs you argue that gender identity is not an ideological belief. But based on my political, cultural, or religious beliefs I argue that gender identity is not an ideological belief. ...and we have to agree to disagree. |
^correction |
Well that’s the problem isn’t it? It is not OK to agree to disagree on this topic. Some people refuse to believe feelings and body modifications change individuals from female to male, while others insist that the government impose policies in accordance with this belief. |
It IS OK to agree to disagree....so long as there is Tolerance and Respect. The lack of Tolerance and Respect is what's dividing our nation. Some people refuse to "tolerate and respect" the belief that gender identity is tied to sex at birth and that feelings and body modifications do not change someone from female to male, all while insisting that the government impose policies contradictory to these beliefs. |
So, the only way to move forward and unify this country is if we remove gender identity issues from the political spectrum altogether. Separation of Church and State. |
Forcing people to believe something (especially when it goes against their religious and ideological beliefs) will never end well. And if that is the way both sides continue to play the "all or nothing" game...I foresee another civil war. |
The belief in something does not make it true, does not make it right or wrong. Some people believe that feelings and body modifications change an individual's biological sex at birth from female to male. Some people believe that feelings and body modifications does not change an individual's biological sex at birth from female to male. They are both beliefs, neither one is indisputably true or false, right or wrong. So it is everyone's right to refuse to believe in one or the other...whether based on religious or ideological beliefs. And the fact that neither side can see this is what is frustrating....and what is polarizing our nation more and more. Both sides must learn to tolerate and accept one another. To respect one another. |
The only time right or wrong comes into the equation is when one discriminates against another's beliefs based on their stance that only their belief is the indisputable truth, that all other beliefs are wrong. |
Transgenderism is not a religion. There are no supernatural forces. |
No, you are conflating sex and gender. Sex never changes. You are always XX or XY. You can believe what you want as long as you are not infringing on other people’s rights (liberty, privacy). You can legally be a jerk but don’t be surprised that people will call you out about it. |
I am not saying that it is a religion, but it is a belief. And I repeat - we are not talking transgenderism. We are talking about overall "gender identity" which is a belief. The separation of church and state does not apply solely to organized religions. Remember the constitutional right to freedom of religion and belief[b]? There are so many neo-religions and beliefs that should also apply to the separation of church and state. Perhaps rather than "church" (which is an antiquated use of the term) I should state that I support the "Separation of Religion and Beliefs from State". |
Kinda like when some people didn’t want to give up slavery. They thought it was ok to oppress others because of their “beliefs”. Bishop Stephen Elliott, of Georgia: “consider whether, by [abolitionist’s] interference with this institution, they may not be checking and impeding a work which is manifestly Providential. For nearly a hundred years the English and American Churches have been striving to civilize and Christianize Western Africa, and with what result? Around Sierra Leone, and in the neighborhood of Cape Palmas, a few natives have been made Christians, and some nations have been partially civilized; but what a small number in comparison with the thousands, nay, I may say millions, who have learned the way to Heaven and who have been made to know their Savior through the means of African slavery! At this very moment there are from three to four millions of Africans, educating for earth and for Heaven in the so vilified Southern States—learning the very best lessons for a semi-barbarous people—lessons of self-control, of obedience, of perseverance, of adaptation of means to ends; learning, above all, where their weakness lies, and how they may acquire strength for the battle of life. These considerations satisfy me with their condition, and assure me that it is the best relation they can, for the present, be made to occupy.” |
