We are going to look at other options for our next car if he lets Trump back on Twitter.

While I think that's a little extreme, you do you. FWIW, you can likely sell your used Tesla for more than you paid. With the price increases over the years and the pandemic-related delays, they are worth more now that before.

People who think Musk supports Trump don't really understand that's it's not about Trump, it's about the consequences of the ban. Also, people who think Tesla represents Trump doesn't understand Tesla or the reality of people who own them.

I have a big problem if Musk thinks that Trump deserves a voice on Twitter.

And I will not fund his exploits going forward if that’s the case.

I guess he wants to stop selling Teslas to Democrats.

He’s such an insane DB I doubt he knows/cares.

He is just mucking around with this so when he decides not to return trump to twitter, he is a hero and sells a lot of cars.

Sales 101 is stay far far far away from toxic trump associations unless you are selling pillows, nutritional supplements, or insurance to conservative senior citizens.

People have short memories. He isn't a Trumper.

Not sure. Almost every real estate entity that could rip the trump name off the facade, ripped it off asap. It significantly devalued the property.

It is a highly toxic association.

I wanted 3 rows so I preordered a Rivian R1S

I live part-time in California and I've been seeing these around on the streets. Interesting look - can't decide if I like them or not.

But they're also experiencing problems: https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2022/05/13/electric-vehicle-suv-rivian-troubles/

The recall was a bit if an annoyance but I love my Bolt. I got a really good deal on it, probably less than half of what you'd pay for even a basic Tesla.

The cheaper electrics out there are still pretty great.

Insurance and car tax are pretty high for Tesla.

Tax is based off the value for the car, so it's not an issue specific to the brand. Our insurance is not higher than it was with our Toyotas. If your company told you that, shop around.

Doesn’t the model X have 3 rows?

DP and yes, it does. We’ve had our three row Model X for almost six years.

Cost is insane though. And 3rd row is miniscule.

Your point? Is the Rivian any cheaper? Moreover, is it actually available?

Get a minivan if you need three huge rows. That’s not what the Tesla X offers, but we find it very usable.

This is the hot one.

NP. This is nice. Keep in mind that in the long run, the traditional car manufacturers have a huge advantage. They may be newer to the EV race, but they've been making cars for nearly a century or more. Tesla has a problem with building reliable cars, and moreover, producing reliable cars in such quantities that it will be able to hold on to market share once everyone else catches up. IMO, Teslas are going to become as stale looking as a Prius over time. And while Tesla grapples with all of its production problems, the other companies are going to mass produce quality EVs in many different styles and tastes.

Personally, I can't wait for the new EV Volkswagen Bus.

Tell that to Apple regarding the iPhone.

Uh, you mean the fact that Apple has lost more and more share of the global smartphone market every year? For every iPhone sold, there's something like 5-6 Android-powered smartphones sold.

Tesla X is $30K - $60K more expensive than the R1S. I would consider that a significant price difference. And for now, Rivian still has a tax credit. If you ordered the X today, you'd have to go the Plaid to get it anytime soon (Aug-Oct 2022), otherwise the dual motor version (still $106K+) is first half of 2023 which isn't that different from Rivian.

My point about the X third row still stands - it is usable in a pinch, but that's about it.
