The Republican party is awesome about getting young people into prominent leadership positions. Look at Paul Ryan. Look at all the extremely young judges Trump put on the federal judiciary. Look at some of the GOP's appointees to the Executive branch agencies. Even Trump's advisors like Stephen Miller are quite young.

Democratic party leaders are content to just put their foot on the necks of younger generation leaders. It's got to stop.

Gerry agrees now.

No. Connelly is dying of cancer and can no longer serve. And you’re an a—hole.

Then he should’ve never run for reelection let alone push to be committee chair! Yes, it’s sad that he is dying. And it’s unfortunate that Pelosi put him in a position where he had to put his health on the back burner to feed her ego and not let AOC become oversight leader.

I’ve already called my rep to demand they nominate and support AOC for oversight chair. Please do the same. In fact, if you’re in Connolly‘s district, ask him to recommend she replace him. We need a fighter in this role.

He was in remission when he did. And was transparent with voters. People live in remission for decades. It’s very sad he did not. He’s mt Rep, and he’s been a very good one. Now that he is no longer in remission, he’s doing the responsible thing.

You can sit down now.

DP. I guess you've been asleep. Up until today, Connolly has been a fighter in this role. He has been fighting every day, more than many other Dems have been. Now that he is stepping down, we'll see whether his replacement is half the fighter he has been.

Connolly is my rep. Who do I call?

You will speak to his office staff staff.,
“Hi, my name is XXX and I am a constituent of representative Connolly.i would like to offer condolences about his illness. I am asking for him to recommend AOC to be his replacement. Please thank him for his service.”

Takes 30 seconds.
Anyone can use the same script and swap out their rep. Google reps name contact and it will come up.

If you really consider AOC to be the most popular young person in the party, then Democrats won't be winning national elections any time soon.

Multiple things can be true about AOC. She can be a far left loon, as someone here called her. And she can be an iconoclast whose popularity transcends party.

But she isn't.

Look farther than your nose.

She's inheriting Bernie's mantle

Quite possibly. However, Bernie's popularity may transcend party but that is another way of saying that is not popular in his party (the Democrat party, I assume you mean). If you mean AOC's popularity has transcended her party, then if you mean that she is not popular in the Democrat party, then I agree. But if so, then she should not get this leadership position.

It's called the Democratic Party.

It's called the Democratic Party.

And Bernie is still not a member.

Im glad to hear that. Part of fighting is people see you fighting. I haven’t seen much from him but will take you at your word.

For those who discount AOC as Oversight chair, may I remind you it was her questioning Michael Cohen that started the campaign finance case (hush money). She’s very good in oversight, regardless of where you stand on the policy.

AOC's anti-wealth and anti-capitalism rhetoric along with her blunt honesty in calling out the shady insider trading tactics of her Congressional colleagues has her political career ceiling capped at Representative for the time being. She will be shunned until she learns to place nice with mega-donors and our so-called "leaders" in Congress. I don't agree with everything AOC has to say but much of what she says is refreshing to hear and hope she stays true to herself even if that means no chance of career advancement to leadership positions within her party.

+1
He’s my rep and I’m proud of what he’s done. He, WHILE fighting cancer was the only Dem to attempt to subpoena Elon.

AOC would be a gift wrapped in 18k gold with a diamond bow for the GOP.

But she isn't.

What she isn't is as "far left" or as "loony" as highly indoctrinated right wing posters try to make her out to be.

She is obviously intelligent and able to articulate complex policy issues and has had excellent strategies where it comes to communication, for example social media and other venues which have given her a much wider audience and populist appeal, especially with younger generations, than most other members of Congress - particularly any Republican member of Congress. She's very relatable, from a humble working class background, having worked as a waitress and so on.

Is she progressive? Yes. Does she echo some democratic socialist values? Where it comes to raising people up economically, where it comes to healthcare and things like that, absolutely. Nothing loony about that, and it's no more "far left" than say Canada. The right tries to call her "loony" and "far left" because her popularity scares them.

Is she even more left than FDR? I don’t think so.

Maybe she would be a gift to the GOP in 2032 or 2036 but the 2028 gift wrapped in 18k gold is gift to the Dems from the GOP having the very unpopular sitting POTUS. The GOP nominee in 2028 will inevitably be a Trump endorsed candidate and that candidate will be as easily beatable as Trump was in 2020 when he lost to an unlikable 77 year old. Numbers don't lie and history does often repeat itself.
