Parents/advocates fought against things like SRO's and metal detectors. What exactly can MCPS do in terms of safety if people don't want more security and are demanding less. What is MCPS supposed to do when many parents are checked out and don't care? What is MCPS supposed to do when there are no consequences, no discipline and all they can do is give kids a talking to? There are many people to blame here and lets start with the parents.

Thanks for the update. Glad to hear everyone is okay. I know that everyone processes these types of things differently so I hope that there are no lingering psychological scars.

My guess is that they need the buses to come back after dropping off elementary schoolers.

They also be bringing in staff for counseling any affected students.

It has been a peaceful year. But, the same parents demanding in person during a health pandemic are the same checked out parents who are refusing the most basic security precautions and don't care what their kids are doing.

Parents don't vote on how the school is run. Reacting to Facebook groups full of whiny do-gooders with bad ideas isn't how you make policy.

Of course this is going to cause mental health issues for some kids. Parents are so focused on covid mental health, which is not a big deal and they forget what incidents like this WILL do to kids and families. We can thank those who fight against SRO's/metal detectors and discipline, including expulsion for these incidents as well as the parents who refuse to parent or behave like this at home so the kids don't know better.

Hello Madison Cawthorn or Boebert or all the other GOP Christmas cards posting guns with kids

2nd amendment supporter however the gOP has gone insane who uses guns at school to kill or threatens to bring them to school board meetings

Did she show up at the school? Is she seeing the students as they are dismissed? Has she said a single word or is she hiding behind MCPS says so her name is not associated with this bad news?

Right. That is why it is crucial that the district protects children in its care rather than saying "what can we do , it's society." Do you see the difference? One is loser- think of being a helpless, tye other recognizes potential problems and takes steps to prevent them from manifestation.
