What is going on?? Is there a gunman on the loose? We must take cover and take action…

Omg that’s exactly what I was thinking! Nothing a round table discussion including hot cocoa and a hug can’t cure.

Actually that might be really helpful. Some of these kids never had any real love, especially if they have been raised in gang banging family members or drugs fueled families. Shame on both of you posters for your lack of empathy.

There's talk that that's exactly what happened at Wheaton recently when a student had a gun. The student, and the gun, were taken into custody without incident. Nobody was hurt, and hopefully the student can get the help they need.

what? No, staff smelled pot on a kid at Wheaton. That's how he got caught. It wasn't because they went to give him a hug. Or are you saying that the staff who went to give him a hug smelled pot on him? That's interesting.. would go against MCPS rule on physical contact with students.

Is that sarcasm?

Suspect is in custody

That’s good news. Kids still reporting being under lockdown though. Don’t understand why.

No. That is misinformation. That is not what happened at all.

My kid is still at Magruder! Luckily, they got the busses to the middle schools (or at least Redland). My middle schooler is home. That should help with getting the elementary kids home (but the busses will be late).

This year has been an all time high. We need more security and metal detectors. Hope they are ok.

We didn't hear or see or hear about anything until the news started reporting things.

Glad you're ok.

I feel bad for all these kids who have had to live through this pandemic and now have this trauma on top of it. I hope that MCPS is able to at least provide counseling, if it’s capable of doing anything but I’m not holding out hope.

I’m just absolutely done with the this school system.

Quit your racist drivel. This is NOT McKnight’s fault.

MCPS has been broken for years. Before McKnight came to be in charge.

The buck stops with her.

Thanks for the update. Glad to hear everyone is okay. I know that everyone processes these types of things differently so I hope that there are no lingering psychological scars.

Must be nice to just blame one’s failures on someone else or just society generally. I would be interested to hear what exactly we are allowed to hold her accountable for.

Man you're the problem with this school and the entire county.

If you want to give violent people empathy instead of preventing them from hurting others and punishing them when they do, then get your incompetent asses in gear and do something for them BEFORE they start shooting our children.
Where is your plan? How many counselors do you need? When will they start heading these kids off? How will they reach these kids if their parents don't want them to go to the shrink at school because they believe (or maybe know) that doing so will stigmatize them? Where's the money? Where's the staff?

Your plan is shit because it's not a plan. It's a reaction after they hurt our children.

Eff out of here with your whining about criminals needing hugs.

So glad my kids do online school. If it isn't disruptions to learning, drugs, or bullying, it's violence and the ever present threat of violence. Covid has nothing on mcps.
