I don't believe for a second this is about peeing outside. The bay is full of body parts and sofas, no way is anyone worried about someone urinating outside in Rio.

It's called a shakedown
You're not supposed to complain about it, though.

Yep. If you complain about it they will say you lied about being extorted in the first place, and shake you down for more money.

In that case, sounds like the Brazilian government was very successful in their goal.

-They peed behind a building
- Lochte was being stupid and pulled a ( framed) poster off the wall
- armed "security guards" held them at gunpoint and took money for damages
- one kid has to pay 12k because ?????
- now they want more money? Because????

Are all the swimmers home?

None of this makes sense to me.

None of the swimmers involved are "kids".

Yes. Let's get hung up semantics. You are as bad as the Brazilian Police.

It's not just about semantics. It's about holding adults to adult standards, be they male or female, white or black, American or not.

And you are either completely missing the point or being deliberately obtuse.

I see Lochte has dyed his hair back.

Agree. Feigen's race, nationality, and sex don't and shouldn't matter. He should not have been made to pay $11k just be allowed to go home.

Do we know what false statements he made to police ? What was the statement that cost him 11k

No one knows this, right? It's just what the police have asserted.

Fine. One adult who by all accounts was not the person who destroyed anything has to pay $12,000 because the police have a vendetta and extortion is "legal" in Brazil.

Yeah, they haven't said what Feigen supposedly said that was $11,000 (or $48,000) awful.

I think the police are mad because Lochte initially implicated someone "dressed like the police" & they don't want the impression to be that the police are robbing tourists, which is kind of ironic ...

I agree with this. I was just pointing out that the fact that so many people keep referring to grown-ass men as "kids" is ridiculous ( & a double standard).

He didn't make any false statements to the police, because the police were never even called. The claim is that Lochte made a false claim about the police. He got back to the states and said that the police pulled them out of a taxi by the side of the road, pointed guns and demanded money.

Turns out that gas station attendants and/or security guards pulled them out of a taxi, pointed guns and demanded money, which they paid. But saying that it was police who pulled the guns was the crime worth $12K. Because making false claims against the police in Brazil is a serious offense.

This is true, though a couple of the swimmers are barely more than kids and I did feel bad for them (the other two) having to basically clean up Lochte's mess.
