Lochte Robbery Story: True or False

I hope Feigen has got the F out of there already.

Paying for what? I don't understand why there is a fine at all! Someone break this down for me.

-They peed behind a building
- Lochte was being stupid and pulled a ( framed) poster off the wall
- armed "security guards" held them at gunpoint and took money for damages
- one kid has to pay 12k because ?????
- now they want more money? Because????

Are all the swimmers home?

None of this makes sense to me.

The swimmers have all returned safely to the US. Feigen's fine was basically for impugning the honor of the city -- Lochte's embellished and somewhat inaccurate description of the incident to the press.

Extortion/paying off the government because they're embarassed, basically. That's all I have got. I think the "fine" is for exaggerating the story to the police.

3 of the swimmers are home. No one seems to know where Feigen - the one who had to pay the fine - is

Feigen got stuck paying for Lochte's BS because Lochte was already gone. The other 2 had not made any statements so the police couldn't hit them up for any cash without looking even worse.

Is it embellishment? If someone holds a gun to me and tells me to give them money, I'm going to feel like I've been robbed.
Don't get me wrong. Lochte is a total d bag, and he owes this other swimmer 10 grand or whatever the original fine was.
I hope to god Feigen is back home.

The IOC looks like crap too. I hope other athletes got the message. We may pick a third world country, you won't be safe, and you will be on your own.

Sorry, but the Brazilian police really couldn't look any worse.

Yeah, it sounds like this Feigen guy was kind of screwed over.

I think it's embellishment, or selective memory (whether on purpose or from being drunk, idk.) Lochte originally said their taxi got pulled over and someone held a gun to their head. But yes, at the core of it, it was a robbery.

I'm inclined to agree, but the police obviously think this is going to help Rio look better, somehow.

You have to be so careful when traveling abroad. Look at what happened to Amanda Knox. Seriously, even visiting another democracy, you can't take your American privileges for granted.

I feel like I'm missing something though - or maybe that's the missing 3 minutes from the video. But if Lochte ripped down a poster, paid the owner $50, and the owner was ok with that, why the guns? Or were the guns to get the $50? And then why the police and the $11,000?

I don't believe for a second this is about peeing outside. The bay is full of body parts and sofas, no way is anyone worried about someone urinating outside in Rio.

It's called a shakedown
You're not supposed to complain about it, though.

Yep. If you complain about it they will say you lied about being extorted in the first place, and shake you down for more money.

And this my friends is why you should never do what your friends are doing "just because"... Sometimes staying in is a good thing
