Most of the people on the ship are from the United States. “My parents only went because it wasn’t canceled,” said Marion. “It was also one of those things where you think ‘I’ve saved up so long for this, and the governments are telling me its ok to travel, so I guess I’ll get on the boat’.” Read more here: https://www.miamiherald.com/news/coronavirus/article241559956.html#storylink=cpy |
oh ffs. on March 8 the state dept warned americans not to take cruises. it was not a surprise. you were stupid. |
Who are all these people willing to give interviews that make them sound idiotic? |
How many people do you lose on a normal cruise? 30? 40? |
We had already cancelled all travel and had our 65k employees across the US preparing to go remote for the foreseeable future. All international travel had been cancelled by the last week in February. What kind of a rock were you living under that all was ok March 7th? It was abundantly clear by that point that going on a cruise would be completely idiotic. "No way they could have known??!" WTF. |
Wow. Since my cruise departed on March 7th maybe the prudent thing to do would have been to jump off the ship and swim back the minute they issued that warning? I don't know what you want me to say. I am very glad that I got to go on that cruise. School was still open that week. It all went off without a hitch. I'd say that the timing worked out well for us not so great for the passengers on the next cruise though. |
This has got to be the most insensitive thing I have ever read. Eff you. I hope you choke on a chicken bone tonight -- you are human trash. |
This. In fact, ironically, I remember having a conversation with a friend on March 6 who was supposed to go on a cruise out of FL the following week. Their exact words, "With everything going on now, there's no way. We're going for a beach weekend instead." |
They sailed from Argentina. Maybe take that up with leaders of Argentina. Cruises that originated in the U.S. all got back to the U.S. |
Tell me why we are bailing out the cruise industry again? |
And if they had just gone on their beach weekend a week or so later the beaches, restaurants and bars would have been shut down. Hopefully they enjoyed the spring break crowds! |

I realize we've completely normalized the deranged absurdity of Trump, but once upon a time in America, people trusted what the president and governors told them. Older people are more likely to have this blind faith. So, yeah. |
You are a ridiculous dumbass. Feb. 4: Diamond Princess cruise ship quarantined in Yokohama, Japan. Over 2,600 guests and over 1,000 crew. Within two days, over 40 people test positive for COVID-19, including eight Americans. How does anyone get on a cruise ship a month later? |
Name a place in NYC that isn't crowded on a normal day. There are 8.6 million people in that city. Yet, travel was not BANNED that weekend and no one who did go to NYC that week thought for a second that they would be unable to get back home. Bottom line is, a Coronavirus quarantine could have happened anywhere at anytime to anyone. You are just hyper focused on cruise ships. It could just as easily have been your office building or your kid's school. |
