I wouldn't say that too loudly. I don't think the CDC has been doing an acceptable job during any of this either. This is literally what they are supposed to DO. There are thousands of people involved, all taking a good salary to protect us from these things and manage them properly. I have no respect for the CDC after all this.

If only they were properly funded and staffed.

I really don't see this as a reason. If every employee at the CDC was working effectively and doing everything they could to get PPE and push forward treatment development/discovery then I'd love to hear about that, but I really don't think it was the case.

People like Elon Musk could go and buy ventilators himself and bring them over and donate them to hospitals here. Do you think people at the CDC couldn't have been making those calls? I don't believe that for a second.

If they're so incompetent that they couldn't get PPE and/or ventilators for us THAT ARE OUT THERE ARE AVAILABLE then they aren't doing their jobs. Period.

And guess what? Crappy leadership (incl HHS) ends in crappy results. How much were they “allowed” to purchase? Sounds like Trump is shopping around for deals himself (against the states).

What exactly would they have done with more money? You can't just say "it would have been better if you'd given us more money!" without backing that up. My impression is that there were "technical glitches" (AKA screwups) within the CDC that prevented timely test roll out, and I'm still waiting to hear how every member of the CDC was doing everything they could to make things happen and that more money would have genuinely been needed or had positive impact.

And as for your 'accusation' that Trump was running around trying to procure things, I actually see that as a positive. A bit late, but something.

I went on a March 7th cruise to the western Caribbean and it was absolutely wonderful, everyone on the ship was having a fun time, I am so glad that we were able to go before the cruise ships were stopped. I can honestly say that I am glad I went on that cruise as opposed to going to NYC...which we had talked about doing.

How does it make you feel to read that everyone on this thread would have no sympathy if you were dying now because you did that.

To be fair, my spouse works in this area. Our kids were so mad at us. And I think everyone at the school thought we were crazy. But, school is different from a vacation and people should have a much lower threshold for a vacation. I feel terrible for those who died on board. It is a real tragedy.

I saw the hysteria mounting and really had expected it to die down based on the actual numbers. That did not happen, though.

Regardless, we were never in danger of not getting back into the country. Our biggest danger was perhaps having one of the ports closed but that did not seem likely. Worst case scenario was that we would not be able to port and spend more days at sea than planned.

We sailed from a low risk area to another low risk area and back again.
