Latin American immigrants, by contrast, tend to have lower levels of education. The vast majority of Mexican immigrants (81.2%) and Central American immigrants (74.6%) had a high school degree or less, the lowest educational attainment level of any origin region.
https://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2018/09/14/education-levels-of-u-s-immigrants-are-on-the-rise/ I assume you are speaking of refugees and not immigrants who are coming on H-1B and student visas. The immigrants who were coming on H-1B visas and student visas are highly educated. The immigrants coming as refugees fleeing unstable countries mostly are not. |
You’re forgetting all of the other countries refugees come from. |
Refugees came from over 60 countries in 2018, but the ones in the news being held in the internment camps along our southern boarder are from latin america. from the OP: I am probably going to get flamed for this, but I see so many heartbreaking stories of refugees and many have very young children or babies. I guess I don't really understand if you are in an environment where you need to flee your circumstances why you would continue to have children. Why would you continue to bring new children into those situations? What heartbreaking stories has she been seeing? Who are the refugees she is talking about? Democratic Republic of the Congo? Bhutan? Ukraine? Burma? Eritrea? https://immigrationforum.org/article/fact-sheet-u-s-refugee-resettlement/ Where, OP? |
Have you tried getting your birth control prescription filled in a war torn region, refugee camp, or while actively fleeing a country? Sometimes a convenient CVS is hard to find. Also, it’s just a myth that the body has a way of just shutting that whole thing down if it’s a legitimate rape. |

I really don't have time to look up statistics for you. If you have problems using the internet, or if you struggle with locating and understanding statistics and source material, ask a trusted friend or family member to help you. I did the reading on this long ago. I PUBLISHED several articles on this. I spent years in some of these countries. Educate yourself. It is long past time. And hope to God that the relative peace and prosperity of your country last for your lifetime and your children's lifetime. |
I don't know everything, but I do know about this. I am not the one here suffering from "white privilege." |
Who said I'm white, you nitwit? You really are embarrassing yourself. |
To be fair to the PP, you sure do sound white. |
+1 (And I’m white as white in my lineage, solidly middle class). Education is ONE issue of many. Culture, circumstance, a whole bunch of other things. Look at birth rates and demographics close to home. It’s perfect if you can both access and afford birth control, which a lot of people who don’t live that far from you can’t. Imagine then coming from a culture where marital rape is acceptable (also closer to home than you think), and a country where women are not even considered real citizens. Get it now? |
So ... are you? |
OP, the majority of posters on this thread are embarrassed for you. And of course you are white. |
I’m the OP. I am not the one that said “who said I’m white, you nitwit?” That’s the “researcher” who can’t offer sources to back up her claim. I’m actually from a third world country, a place that this name-caller would probably erroneously deem has mostly uneducated women who have no rights. |
Good book related to this subject is Empty Planet by Darrell Bricker. Basically says that it has to do with women's education. Birth rates all over the world are drastically falling, and yes, they will even begin falling in Africa. China is already imploding, as is most of the developed world.
The U.S.A's competitive advantage is that we import many immigrants (just wish we were more selective versus whoever can make it across the border) and are maintaining our population. South Korea is already in real trouble. These refugees will almost immediately adjust their birthrate to their host country's birthrate - which in big cties is often below the replinishment rate. |
OP, there are various reasons why people continue to have children in all kinds of contexts. You've been given many examples on this thread, each of which would be a relatively obvious conclusion to a thoughtful person considering the issue.
Some women may not have a choice about becoming pregnant. In societies where women do not have a choice about becoming pregnant, they do not have a choice about ending the pregnancy. Sexual violence is a known tactic among many paramilitary groups. It was specifically used in Bosnia and Rwanda. It is also a tactic used by abusers to trap women in relationships.
