People in Crisis - Why do they continue to have children?

No birth control or rape

Have you seen that the young girls who were raped have been forced by US judges to carry these pregnancies to term while in ICE custody? Did you miss those articles?

The US is running concentration camps and is not giving these women access to birth control, and women and children are being raped.

Wake up, OP.

Some are raped and it is not a choice.

Seriously? Because access to birth control and comprehensive sex education are limited. Because people have a strong biological drive to reproduce and they want families.

You don’t get to choose who has babies. Everyone deserves to have a family if they want one.

I'm embarrassed for you, OP.

OP here. I specifically did not call out why women continue to have children, because I don't think it is all on their shoulders - their husbands have a role to play. And I am not talking about the women that are subjected to rape, which is horrible and out of their control.

I find it really telling that many of you assume that all refugees are ignorant, uneducated women who have zero rights. Not all women from those countries have no agency. That is a gross assumption.

What an insensitive thread. My God.

No impulse control and no future orientation. These are simple people, often sub average IQ. Unless you've worked with people like this before, you really have no comprehension on just how little they know or understand about the world. They're operating at a baseline. Eating and breeding is all they know.

How do you know all refugees are like this?

Such PC boloney. I've worked with low-income folks for 30 years. Free health care, free condoms, free birth control, free sex ed. They still go out and get pregnant by deadbeats. Medicaid babies out number non-medicaid babies in nearly every US city.

Bingo. Exactly why the dummies in your high school got knocked up one or two years after graduating. Because a job or studying for college-level chemistry is boring or too hard. Easy (and fun) to spread your legs and get pregnant...and taxpayers pay for everything, so why not?

Poor populations and refugees are not the same. Just because someone is poor doesn't mean they don't own a home, or have food on the table. If you are a refugee, you have left your home, have no promise of income, healthcare or any sort of stability. Two very different things.

An incredible misunderstanding of the availability and amount of social safety net financial assistance for young families.

I meant to say, "doesn't mean they don't have a home."

Even a middle class educated woman who lives in a country disrupted by war or political repression can find herself pregnant unexpectedly due to lack of access to her regular contraceptive or due to rape.
