I would put tampons on the shopping list. In spring of sixth grade when everyone else was getting bras one of my dads took me to a lingerie shop and got me some too. When I asked to shave my legs, one of them sat on the edge of the bathtub with me walked me through it. I think they gave me deodorant for Christmas one year, and then I just put that on the shopping list as needed also. They really just ... dealt.

NP. I was raised by a mom + dad, but my mom was mentally ill and not at all priceless where womens issue came in. My day's the one who took me bra shopping and bought pads. He didnt know how to talk to me about puberty so he made a doctors appointment and dropped me off. He tried. Point is, sometimes the female in a girl's life isn't much of a role model at all.

Was it difficult for your dads to adopt you back then? What kind of logistical hoops (if any) did they have to jump through?

They knew someone who knew someone (my birth mother) who was pregnant. They didn't go through an agency, which cut down on wait time, costs and hoops to jump through.

How did they teach you how to wear a tampon? Sorry I'm extremely curious. My mom never worn one and she had the hardest time trying to help me. We laugh nowadays when we remember that day. We were like two teens trying to do something naughty.

There's a diagram with instructions that comes in the box if you buy Playtex, so I just looked at that and did it. It wasn't some huge hurdle or anything. All my dad told me was that if I could feel it, then it was in wrong and to try again with a new one, and not to forget to take it out.

Not OP, but my mom never had to help me figure out how to use one. I just read the directions and that was that. I would have been mortified if she had tried to teach me in any more detail! I had no idea there was an expectation that moms did that kind of thing!

Dunno. Not sure they ever sat down to specifically formulate a plan regarding body image in young women. We were super active, and they raised me to be a foodie.

Are your dating relationships generally healthy, or do you get involved with really needy types and give too much of yourself to them? I only ask b/c my cousin with 2 dads does this, and I wonder why she thinks so little of herself & lets guys take advantage of her kindness.
