Yes, only child.

I have an only child.. 9 year old. I always worry she will feel "lonely" It doesn't sound like you were lonely though or were you? Did you ever wish for a sibling(s). I am always looking for positive examples of only children. I have a small family, but make sure she has lots of friends and we are getting her a DOG too. I am also Jewish. Good for you for converting. Congrats on your children and pregancy too.

Lol, no. It's not contagious.

Don't be defensive! There is a strong nurture component so it's a fair question.

Please cite your source for this because the only research I've read is that children raised by same-sex parents are no more likely to be gay than children raised by straight parents. And how do you explain ALL the gays and lesbians who were raised by straight parents and have straight siblings?

Sigh. Oh, pp. You took the bait. Sometimes when a troll drops bait like this, it's best to leave it untouched.

Good to hear OP. My biggest concern would be teasing from other kids. Glad it wasn't too bad.

When you were dating, how did boys react?

I wasn't lonely. I did want a sister to share clothes with, and a little brother to boss around, but never wanted siblings because of loneliness.
Thanks!

Or as I like to say to my kids, don't pick turds up off the ground.

They didn't really. I grew up in a progressive neighborhood of a progressive city.
Every so often there'd be something really subtle that made me think one of my dates was re-configuring what it means to be gay based on something one of my dads would do or say. One or two made cracks about double the interrogation from the father because I have two of them.

I called them the weirdest things. One I called Da-da. The other I called Coppa. (don't know why) (rhymes with Jimmy Hoffa) When I was a teenager I decided I was too cool for such babyish names and shortened them to C and D (which are also their first initials).

Is one Italian, by any chance?

No, neither of them are Italian. I think that was my babyish attempt to merge his first name with Da-da, and that's what came out.

As of 2011, baby!

Sounds like you may have lived in close quarters. Ever "hear" them? All in all, how did the Birds & Bees get explained?

Did you ever write about your experiences for the NY Times? (Your story sounds vaguely familiar.)

Um, no. I never heard them having sex. Once, I asked if I had interrupted it because I thought I had but they said no. I don't care if they were lying to me or not.
Sex was explained to me the same way it's probably explained to everyone else. One night after dinner there was even a diagram drawn of reproductive organs to explain in further detail about exactly where sperm and eggs meet, and I later colored it in and put it on my bulletin board thinking it was pretty. Really, I swear - men ARE capable of talking to girls about everything.

Nope, not me.

How did you deal with periods and onset of puberty in general? That's when moms are priceless
