vote yes.

For the love of god, vote yes.

This isn't just an R vs. D thing - it's a matter of getting some control back from a drunk administration.

Short term gain for long term loss.

It’s literally not a long term loss because it ends in 2030 when the process will go back to normal.

That is what they are saying now.
Just wait. It won’t if Dems are still in power.

Until the 3030 census.

I mean 2030, obviously! Not 104 years! Just 4

No. You are either mistaken or deceiving. The process resumes as a 10 year cycle in 2030. The gerrymandered districts don't revert.

This is whe Independent voters don't trust Dems either.

Then you are no better than they are.

In this one area, you are correct. They want to redraw lines. I want to redraw lines.

No. That's not accurate. I asked if the districts would revert automatically. They will not. I looked it up https://www.elections.virginia.gov/media/electionadministration/electionlaw/FINAL-APPROVED-explainer.pdf

The process returns to a 10 year cycle in 2030. But the tortured districts stay.

What happens if Spanberger decides to line item veto the 2030 limit?

It will be interesting to see Arlington and Harrisonburg in the same congressional district. Maybe they should do the districts by last name, so District 1 supports citizens with last names or A through C, District 2 covers D through F...etc.

That is not how constitutionsl amendments work. The governor has no say over whether amendments get passed. Va Governors are unable to veto amendments and their signature is only ceremonial, it has no impact on whether it is passed or not. The requirements for a VA constitutional amendment are that it needs to be passed in the state legislature during two different years and then aprroved by a majority of voters.

Well majority will rule assuming courts leave it allowed but I am going to vote, wasn't going to bother before. Voting NO.

Vote no.

The ONLY reason to vote 'No' is if you think Trump is doing an amazing job with the country, economy, and is a moral/ethical stand up man surrounded by honest selfless advisors.

Otherwise, vote YES.

What an ignorant comment!

It really isn't.

Vote No = MAGA
Vote Yes = you are sickened by MAGA

Note, this is only until the info from the 2030 census comes in. Normally I hate gerrymandering. But it's clear that that modern day Republicans do not care about fairness or decency. The only chance to save our country is to play by the same rules that they do. We, as a country, can no longer afford to "go high when they go low."

Yes. Trump tried to steal the election in 2020. Clearly it is up to the voters now since the Rs in the Senate and Congress are spineless.

Voting yes and maybe we stop MAGA. It will make us subject to perpetual gerrymandering, instead of just adjusting after a decennial census. What happens IF a MAGA somehow manages to win Virginia in the future? It will be a loaded gun in the hands of a criminal. It could be another short-term gain for long-term loss.

MAGA has already gerrymandered.

Do we just let them steal power and continue to erode our democracy?

F that.

But if we pass this, it will be legal out of cycle gerrymandering. You won’t be able to complain about it when a R does it in the future. Or do you imagine that the Rs will magically disappear like after Biden was elected?

Well if Republicans don't like it, they are welcome to pass anti-gerrymandering legislation the next time the Democrats introduce such legislation in Congress. But they won't, because they love themselves some good voter suppression.

One of the first pieces of legislation in 2027 the Democrats need to bring to the floor is a simple anti-gerrymandering /independent redistricting bill. No riders, no amendments, just a clean bill. Even if Democrats don’t take back the Senate they can keep bringing these bills up and pat Republicans on the record to be for gerrymandering.

Until it is a federal law there’s no reason Democrats should be fighting with one hand tied behind their back.

This is just like all the morons who claimed Sears had a chance to win the governorship.

This Amendment will pass easily.

To add insult, even Youngkin knows it will pass which is why he is completely absent.

You are naive. Once something like this is in place it never goes away even when the politicians say it is temporary. See Patriot Act. See Dulles Toll Road.

This won’t expire in 2030. It will be renewed and deemed necessary. Mark my words.

This sounds like how the immigration issue is being handled.
