Yeah. This is it. It’s a generational thing and some suspicion that you are more politically/socially conservative than they are comfortable with, not that they are intimidated by what you’re wearing. This is true for both GenX and GenZ - btw. My GenZ niece and her friends are MUCH more like my GenX cohort than either the boomers before us and the millennials after us. Clothing is more casual, people care less about traditional romantic relationships etc. |

Who uses the word "dungarees"? Who wears "dungarees"?
OP, are you a foreigner trying to create more division in our country by posting fake stuff online? |
|
I have never dressed like other people, OP. Yet somehow I've made friends. Would I have made more friends if I'd dressed exactly like everyone else? Maybe, but then I can't change my multiethnic background, and I'm sure that also has something to do with whether I'm socially in or out!
You have to be YOU. There really is no alternative. |
100%!!!! Lol |
|
OP, I get it, you're prettier than they are. Sometimes this happens to me.
If you are that self conscious just wear stud earrings, a neutral lip with the makeup you mentioned, a t shirt or button down that fits well with whatever bottoms you want, and call it a day. Do you work? Do they? Interested in the SAHM/WOHM mom dynamic here. |
|
You sound like a troll.
Dungarees? Young moms in pixie cuts and baggy clothes? It just doesn't ring true. Nobody wears a pixie cut these days unless they are a masc lesbian or very fashion-forward. This isn't 1995. The moms who don't care about being stylish or dated will be wearing cheap skinny jeans or athleisure. |
|
It's hard to tell what OP means by her description.
But it sounds like everyone else is on trend with today's casual fashion choices--those "dungarees" are everywhere and OP is just hopelessly dated. |
| Who uses the term "dungarees" in 2024? Even in Australia that is passé. |
Sounds like you just don’t want to make friends there. You prefer to complain about them. It doesn’t matter what you wear if you are actually open to new friendships. |
| Dungarees? |
Me too! With a simple necklace and casual earrings. But not with flip flops, because they are horrible for your feet, knees, and back. |
|
I don’t care where you live, of course there will be some people who wear chino shorts, summery top and some minimal make up. Come on, you weren’t in a nap dress and heeled sandals (even that is so basic someone will have a version of it in anywhere, USA).
How do I know this is likely correct - because there are fashion/clothing bloggers in literally every state and area. |
Yeah I think it really depends on the social circle. Like in utah you have very outdoorsy people, super showy mormons (like real housewives types), generic suburban frumps, some alt/punk types, etc I do wonder how OP's family ended up in such a state |
