Whether or not someone could legally consent is not tautological to whether they were raped.
A 10 year old cannot legally consent to sexual intercourse. They just can't. Doesn't matter who is doing it. That doesn't mean a same-age partner is guilty of rape (or sexual assault, or whatever relevant definition is used), because that ahs additional criteria to be met. Are you dense? |

An abortion provider in Indiana who knows her state will be limiting abortions in very short order. |
A ten year old cannot have consensual sex with anyone irrespective of age. |
Please tell us: do you or do you not think this child should receive an abortion? Do you think it's okay she has to travel out of state to get one? Be honest now. This thread is not about the horrors of child abuse. What a stupid thing to imply, that no one is upset she was raped or angry at the rapist. Of course people are. People can be outraged at two things at once, but apparently you are fine with her going through with the pregnancy. Shame on you. |
But were you 10 years old? |
Just think of the children you DIDN'T have because you didn't get an abortion? Because you know if you had aborted your oldest daughter, you'd have different children today, don't you? And at least it sounds like you got to choose your path. These laws are taking that choice away from women and girls. |
Sure. But that's a different topic. What about the BABY who is pregnant at age 10? Killing her molester could bring satisfaction to you, but forcing her to go through delivery at age 10 or 11 is forcing another trauma on her. |
| There is a helpless child in this situation, a living breathing 10 year old whose body has been forced to share her blood supply and her organs with an embryo. She will be harmed if the pregnancy continues. Why does her state not care about her?? |
Exactly. This is squarely a medical decision if there ever were one. This needs to be front page news in Ohio. |
WTF? I would hope that one of the few things we can all agree upon regardless of our politics is that what happened to this girl is horrible and far too many of our young children are placed in situations like this. There is outrage and sadness over child abuse everywhere. The hope that the perpetrator can be brought to justice is pretty much universal. What seems to be less than universal sadly is whether the govt should be allowed to retraumatize her by denying her healthcare also. And sadly a politically powerful minority in the country has said it’s ok for the govt to make her situation worse for her. And the strong pro choice majority in this country can be upset about that and wonder how we (and this girl) are subject to the beliefs of such a small group when we theoretically live in a democracy. |
| This is how conservatives think. In their minds you shouldn't hold blame this horror on the anti-abortion law, you should blame it on the rapist. Because a 10 year old should never be pregnant, the law shouldn't have to take that scenario into account. It doesn't matter to them what actually happens when laws like this are enacted. It doesn't even matter to them that countries that ban abortion have higher rates of abortion. Laws are about how things "should" be, no need to make it complicated by asking them to think through practicalities. |
Yes! If it were not reported, the problem would cease to exist. Attack the messenger. Who wants to hear truth anyway. You are despicable. |
| The sad thing is that a lot of these pregnancies have to continue. Even Monroe was legal because this happens to people in Christian cults and brainwashed Christian communities where abortion has always been seen as a sin. These port 10-year-old 11-year-old girls have had to birth their sisters brothers cousins because there was no other option. In some cases, the family raises it as their own and other cases. She's stuck with it. |
| That should say even when roe was legal |
