| We live in an upscale neighborhood but having been having long-term issues with a noise problem from our next door neighbor. Without going into the specifics of the noise issue, it is a 24 hour per day, very annoying nuisance noise. We have complained about this to them three times in the past (this is not a constant problem but tends to happen about 2-3 times per year for 2-4 weeks at a time). After we complain they stop the noise, but then a few months later allow the noise to start up again--they have complete control over the noise. Now the noise is occurring again. I can hear it inside my house and on my property, 24 hours a day. We have also contacted other neighbors who claim they do not hear it but they are farther away than we are. What would you do? We complained to the HOA president who refused to discuss it with them saying he didn't want to "stir up trouble." They clearly are the opposite of neighborly to allow this nuisance noise to persist despite my complaints to them about it. I am very angry and disappointed that they continue to allow this noise to occur. |
| We gotta know what the noise is. |
| Need to be specific. |
| It's similar to leaving on a radio to a news station turned all the way up to top volume 24/7. Literally 24/7. |
| Can't help without knowing what the noise is? |
|
If they stop when you complain, keep complaining. Every time.
Sure, that's annoying. But at least they stop. Maybe they'll get tired of your complaining and stop for good. |
+1. Not going to pass judgement on the neighbor when you're being so cagey with details, OP. $20 says you know telling us what the noise/nuisance is would change our opinions of the situation. |
| If it's something like a radio, then I'd think you're within your right asking it to be turned down if it's happening after-hours. It's tougher if it's a noisy old outdoor air conditioning unit or swimming pool filter equipment that sits 15 feet from your house (and windows and yard). In that case, I'd think you're more limited to noise ordinances that track decibels. Contact a real estate lawyer for what your options really are and what the law provides in this instance. |
| A calling to prayer? Although, I can't imagine those last 24/7 |
|
The fact that your HOA President refuses to pursue it and no one else can hear it leads me to believe you're being unreasonable.

OP here. No it's nothing that is part of the house like the things you mention. I would have zero problems with that. It's a completely unnecessary nuisance noise, a unique type of situation because they think there is a benefit to them of the noise but it's a nuisance to us. Their relative told us what the noise is and why they are doing it (at first we couldn't figure out what it was or where it was coming from). We can see the unit producing the noise sitting in their yard and I have recorded the noise on many occasions. The noise violates HOA ordinances and I have told them this multiple times. |
| Are they Hindus singing Kirtans (singing and musical instruments)? I know some people who will play them 24/7 for a day only a few times a year but never for weeks on end. It's a long stretch that this is your noise issue but regardless, why don't you just talk to them? |
| WTF? This is so weird and cryptic. Just tell us the damn noise! |
| ^^ never mind, just saw your reply. |
| OP here. It's nothing religious in nature. We have talked to them 3 times already about this. For some reason, they persist despite our previous complaints. They are not good neighbors. |
