It's a requirement for a nomination by the Trump administration.

Counting the days until I can retire, leave this country, and actually experience democracy again. Less than 5 years left.

Yup. Because the democrats got rid of the filibuster for judicial nominations. Resp the whirlwind.

Wrong. Dems left it for the supreme court. Republicans blew it up for gorsuch

Wrong. Reid knew damn well this was going to happen. He was promised that it would and he didn’t care. It opened the gates and you know it. If Reid hadn’t done it, you wouldn’t be in this situation. Reap what you sow.

No we'd still be here. If Reid hadn't done it, McConnell would have and he knew it too. McConnell was already abusing the filibuster all over the place, and Reid asked him repeatedly to stop. Don't be a fool. You like McConnell politically and that's fine, but don't pretend he is not a total asshole. Reid was pretty dickish too, honestly. Nice guys don't become majority leader.

McConnell is one of the worst things they had ever happened to our country. Trump is a total moron, but he is a symptom. McConnell is actually the problem. Asshole.

Increases the chances the GOP loses the senate if Collins etc have to cast a vote against Roe. If they lose the senate, Dems should pack the court. So republicans should decide if they prefer a 5-4 majority or 7-6 minority.

People keep saying this buts it’s total BS.

Only 25-30 percent of the people polled actually want to do this. And just like Reid screwing his party by invoking the nuclear option, this will screw over the Dems too....

So you get Biden and a Dem Senate, increase court to 12, then eventually you get a Republican President and senate and they FU and increase it to 17 and pack it will all conservatives and so forth, so we may have 30-40 justices on the court... once you open that door, it will hit you him the butt really hard on your way out.

He barely won the election in 2016 with zero political experience and since he became a president, he had already picked two supreme court justices. This will be his third pick. And in the middle of a very difficult reelection fight, this event may help him to shift a focus from the pandemic to the supreme court.

The Supreme Court is poised to eliminate health insurance for tens of millions of people in the middle of the pandemic, so they’re very much intertwined.

It has basically already happened. A hung court (at best 4-4) lets the lower court decision stand. ACA is all bet dead.

Will ACA end immediately?

As soon as the court releases an opinion next summer. The case is being heard in November. The only thing that will stop it is if Biden wins and the Congress passes a law that corrects the flaws in the current court case. Trump will let it die and millions will be uninsured. He has no replacement policy.

Why isn’t this being mailed to every single damn voter in the country. I got a USPS reminder to plan now to vote early. People need twitter length bullet points of what will happen if Biden doesn’t win by a landslide. No way that Gen X Y or Z will be okay with that. Bernie Bros will burn it down. Young color blind Gen Z voters will be furious. Get every radio station to share these talking points. Print it on tshirts. Dedicate a Twitter following, whatever. Bring the matters that directly touch people out into the open. Advocate for retail workers and fast food chain workers to be able to vote. Change the damn law and let election days be a holiday so everyone can vote. This pisses me off.

So that's Collins

Do we have - or think we have - Romney and Murkowski? And then we need one more?

Wow. I didn't expect such forthrightness of Collins. Major CYA to please both parties before her potential re-election. I'll take it!

She will vote for the nominee after the election...win or not.

Maybe, maybe not. If she loses the election she will be free for the first time in her career. Then we will see what she really thinks. I think she really is pro-choice. I could be wrong though.

She is a pro-choice Republican and has made no bones about that. I am also a pro-choice Republican.

Hope you’re voting for Biden then.

Nope. I used to be a one-issue voter but no more. There are other issues at stake now.

Other issues than a woman’s right to choose? Don’t really care about that one that much?

Don’t call yourself an advocate for women if you plan to vote for that monster.

Of course there are other issues IN ADDITION to a woman’s right to choose. I no longer vote on that one issue because I know that Roe v Wade will not be reversed, no matter how much Democrats try to fear monger. It just won’t. So now I’ve moved on to other issues that ALSO concern me. Unlike you, I’m able to consider multiple issues at one time.

Ginsburg also had a legacy beyond abortion, but those issues don't seem to matter to you.

This is all nonsense. Collins is a rad-right Senator who merely gives infrequent lip service to less-right issues from time to time, so as to keep her job. Whether or not she loses her own race to her challenger Gideon, Collins will do whatever McConnell tells her to - she’ll just do so after the election, if there is one.

For all the people outraged!!

It is legal for the President to nominate a justice and the senate to confirm Any Time in his presidency. This includes the last month as wel!

There is no Biden Rule or Mitch rule, they are just suggestions and not actual law.

So relax and accept it. It’s not probably a polite thing to do, but it is LEGAL. And all the people advocating burning down the Senate, blocking Senators, killing them, you are the criminal...

I wish he would just shrivel away into the pond scum that his froggy ass emerged from. I normally don’t hold strong feelings of hatred, but he is just diabolical. And an insult to any community of faith. He will have his day in court too, if not this life than the next.

The door to this was open decades ago. Politicians started violating the political norms that make democracy viable. It's been escalating ever since and here we are. If you do not want this to continue, then you tell your Republican Senator not to do this. If he does do this, then you should pray Trump and McConnell win, because they don't, Democrats will definitely retaliate.

I don't care who started it. If you choose to continue, that's on you. I don't blame you for it. But I'm also not going to let 5 justices, including 3 that shouldn't even be there blow up everything I ever wanted for this country.

Murkowski already announced she wouldn’t vote for a nominee right?

Romney has been quiet, but I think he’s a probable no.

One thing to remember is that Martha McSally will probably lose her election and, since she was appointed, has to be out by November 30th (but Mark Kelly can kick her out on Nov 4th). Therefore, unless the GOP can get all of this done before the election, they’ll be down to 52 seats, which means 3 defections would be enough.

Won’t matter, Alabama is going Republican (also a special election seat)

Alabama is not holding a special election for Doug Jones’s seat this year. You don’t know what you are talking about.

You don't know what you're tslking about. Jones was elected to fill out the term of Sessions for two years. That seat is now in play. I think Jones will vote with Dems.
Anonymous
Democrats would love nothing more than to unseat McConnell, who faces a re-election against McGrath, a former Marine fighter pilot. But the seat isn't considered among the most likely Republican-held seats to flip.

Still, Joe Lockhart, former press secretary for President Bill Clinton, called on Democrats to donate to the McGrath campaign.

"Anyone looking to send a political message tonight take out your credit card tonight and contribute to Amy McGrath. Let Mitch McConnell know we're not f******* around this time."

Reverse the Situation.

Biden is in last term of his presidency, Dems hold senate. Probable Republican like Romney will wine and senate will switch to Republican control after the election. It is 9/15 and Clarence Thomas dies, are you telling me you would tell your democratic senator and Schumer not to replace Thomas with a liberal justice since it’s so close to the election.

I call total BS, you would do that is a second and don’t kid yourself that you would not.
Anonymous
I mean you would replace Thomas as fast as you could....

I’m pissed but I would never advocate for criminal activity. On the contrary we are stuck in this banana republic because too many people are following the rule of law while the real criminals are taking advantage of public integrity and exploiting a system with flaws that they were entrusted to repair. It’s illegal for Trump to do half the crap he did in life, so save your speeches for how anyone needs to consider the law if this motherflucker basically goes full blown palpatine. The economy that is getting worse and worse for commoners and better for the 1% will be made irrelevant by the destruction that began with the racists on the right saying “not my president” in 2008.

Someone needs to focus on building a bridge and calming the troubled waters because the torches are lit. You rip everything that matters in a free society and what else to people have to lose? This entire shut show of a presidency has created more turmoil in the last 4 years that has more severe impact than the last FORTY years.
