Hey hey, ho ho.
Snobby Tholen needs to go. |
She's got a good deal less ego than most of the rest of the board, actually. Certainly less ego than Sujatha Hampton, one of the names being considered behind the scenes to replace her. |
Dranesville would flip R before it would elect Sujatha. |
She does spend alot of time talking about how terrible white people are while making sure to live in one of the whiter areas, lol. |
I’m an R and I would actually vote for her. Why? She actually cares about education. She done a lot to advocate for evidence-based reading instruction. I do hate that she seemed to ignore/minimize the detrimental effects of school closure on black/brown kids. She sided with the teachers and that was huge mistake. |
That's really the only positive (to most Dranesville voters) she could point to - and there are plenty of negatives. At the end of the day, it would be like Melanie Meren on steroids in terms of annoying faux wokeness. |
If she can get FCPS to use evidence-based programs for reading and math and implement them with fidelity, I don’t care what her politics are. |
Agree with this. I definitely don’t agree with many of her political views, but at least she would push the board to actually look at the education my children are receiving. Kids can use whatever bathroom they want, I just want my kids to learn to read and write. Fairfax is currently woefully inadequate in that department. |
| Sujatha was all about keeping schools closed indefinitely and doing whatever the FEA wanted. Can't see that playing well any time soon in Dranesville. |
+2 she could advocate for in-depth phonics instruction all day but it won’t matter if schools are closed. |

Is it true Elaine Tholen's new theme is "Je Ne Regrette Rien"?

+1 Are you serious? Hampton is actually being considered as Tholen’s replacement?? Wow. They simply never learn. DP |
I am not disparaging anyone either. If the Omeish petition is the same, I see no chance for that one either. This is an easy toss for any judge. I agree there are significant reasons for an Omeish recall that could have merit, but if this is what the Court receives as the rationale for those who signed...a big miss. |
I'm not so sure about that. Omeish is controversial based on her remarks, but it's not like her personal views on the Israel/Palestinian issue really affect the day-to-dayoperations of FCPS. On the other hand, the decision to keep schools closed for an extended period contrary to advice from medical experts had a major impact on FCPS and FCPS families. Maybe most judges will say that decision was squarely within the discretion of the SB members, but if they get a circuit court judge (and there are about 15 of them) who is sympathetic to the petitioners it could go the other way. |
I guess it is possible. I think they would go 0 for 15 with them all. Again, just my view, but a high bar and, to me, a weak argument with so many other conflicting points of view, guidance from gov't officials and medical professionals, and the consistency with the majority of othe school districts. |
