I’m a lawyer. Having not read the number of signatures required in the article I read about the recall this morning, I was curious as to if they had additional signatures over the required number. I dont think I “disparaged the constituents who organized the recall.”
And Omeish is in a different league than Cohen and Tholen. Far more people are willing to say that she is out of line and negligent. I personally dont subscribe to Cohen or Tholen’s politics, but I don’t think their actions fall into recall territory. I absolutely think that Omeish’s actions do.

I am not disparaging anyone either. If the Omeish petition is the same, I see no chance for that one either. This is an easy toss for any judge. I agree there are significant reasons for an Omeish recall that could have merit, but if this is what the Court receives as the rationale for those who signed...a big miss.

I'm not so sure about that. Omeish is controversial based on her remarks, but it's not like her personal views on the Israel/Palestinian issue really affect the day-to-dayoperations of FCPS. On the other hand, the decision to keep schools closed for an extended period contrary to advice from medical experts had a major impact on FCPS and FCPS families. Maybe most judges will say that decision was squarely within the discretion of the SB members, but if they get a circuit court judge (and there are about 15 of them) who is sympathetic to the petitioners it could go the other way.

I guess it is possible. I think they would go 0 for 15 with them all. Again, just my view, but a high bar and, to me, a weak argument with so many other conflicting points of view, guidance from gov't officials and medical professionals, and the consistency with the majority of othe school districts.

At the end of the day some of this is an effort at conditioning, so that a higher percentage of people will not simply vote mechanically again in 2023 based merely on party affiliation, but actually associate an incumbent or any other candidate endorsed by the Democrats with something negative instead (in this case, school closures, kids forced to wear masks, etc.).

Of course, some of the current School Board members - especially Frisch, Omeish, and Tholen - have done other things that would hurt their future election odds, regardless of FCPS's response to Covid-19 or the outcome of the recall petitions.

This makes sense and it may be a good primer. I just think folks should not hold out too much hope in the instant effort. This may well have the effect you describe, though.

+1. And now many FCPS parents have had their eyes opened and realize they can no longer trust Fairfax Democrats recommendations. The people running that organization are so far to the left (they still support the PTA official “Let Them Die” speaker).

“Kids forced to wear masks.” The vast majority of kids do not mind masks and masks are an important prevention strategy except to covid deniers (who are a large chunk of this partisan openfcps crew).

What is your source for “vast majority of kids do not mind masks”? Or just your magical thinking?

+100
I don’t know any kids who are fine wearing masks all day, every day. You don’t have to be a “COVID denier” to understand that.

Does anyone know if tholen will have to appear in court? If so, can you provide the date/time/location?

Thanks!

More opportunities to sign the recall petitions for Omeish and Cohen this weekend:

I’m scrolling through the Replace FCPS SB tweeter account and it’s really very partisan. Some of the things re-tweeted! Anti requiring masks, anti CRT, Multi racial whiteness advocate?, pro GOP governor. At least own it people.

That’s just one account, and it doesn’t speak on other issues for all who favor the recalls.

I went to the PP linked twitter, followed links, and ended up on Do Better FCPS twitter which has a link to extremely bad FCPS behavior on sexual assault while on a bus for an FCPS school related trip and a court case. If anyone other than a D approved entity or person wrote that Hampton-NAACP language arts piece? They'd have been pilloried. Remember the candidates DeStefano and Palathingal? Honestly school board members from anything other than Lee or Mount Vernon need to band together and stop slop.

DCUM is populated by valuable info on FCPS like the Region 5 thread. Geographically how does it make any sense that Woodson is in the same region as Westfield? That is also the gem of a thread with older news on Westfield principal, Brabrand, Storck, Mount Vernon principal and the Body Magic.

And in one family, 2 elementary schools, 1 quarterly packets, another zero.

FCPS administration and regions and schools didn't even provide equitable packet distribution. Each school board member should have had a spreadsheet on all schools in their domain. Packets are simple.

It seems that at-large members take on ceremonial roles only for facilities, budgets, CIP, instruction. Speaking of Storck and Mount Vernon the most recent CIP had these gems:

Mount Vernon High School program capacity less enrollment. 2451-1980=471
West Potomac High School 2229-2654=-425. If that thing was at it's intended 3000 , 346 for a grand total open of 1045.
Lewis 2028-1740=228

Edison and Hayfield are normal schools. Contracts have been signed on the West Potomac addition including 20m plus during 2021 . https://www.fcps.edu/sites/default/files/media/pdf/DC-Bid-Results-Report_1.pdf

FWIW, to those questioning the OpenFCPS goals - Im a Democrat, consider myself moderate, voted for tholen in the last election, and eagerly signed her recall petition. I am so tired of her duplicitous, contradictory statements and actions, her refusal to do her job, and what I consider to be her progressive stance. I know for a fact that I am not alone in OpenFCPS - there are many more like me. Sure there are Republicans too - that does not surprise nor deter me. Its actually a good thing.

If you think it’s a good thing that you’re teamed up with people who want private-school vouchers for their kids and nada for yours, your judgment is highly suspect.

She's certainly duplicitous. Not so sure about the "progressive" part.
