You don't "graduate college"; you graduate FROM a college. "Graduate is an intransitive verb. It requires no direct object.

University of Maryland opened first Dental School in United States in 1840.

There were no real dentists prior to that.

Given that was only one school, going to a dentist was not available most of the US until the 20th century.

This is just not true for those with W2 income!

It’s literally true for everyone. You will get way more entitlements over a lifetime than a person on welfare. If you write off your interest on your house, drive a company car, went to college with on the GI bill, lived in a red line neighborhood…. I could go on for pages. You have more entitlement than someone on welfare.

You are an idiot. Also, GI Bill isn't an entitlement. It is an EARNED benefit, as in the pay for military is so low considering many factors, it's a form of deferred compensation. They have to serve to get it.

But everyone who served did not get it. Guess why?
PP: Name-calling, blissful ignorance, and racism are not a good look — especially when you feel compelled to scream about it. DP

Guess why? Because GI Bill details are different depending on your era of service. If you didn't get it that means you likely didn't serve long enough, were dishonorably discharged, or you opted for other educational benefits like existing student loan repayment.

You aren't making any sense.

this post reflects a mind-blowing failure of historical education

No, I thought we were speaking about modern era gi bill. There is no race component today. Sure there were issues with it 75 years ago. But today it is not an entitlement it is an earned benefit that has nothing to do with race.

DP. So, you “thought” about it, either read the comments here and didn’t understand them — or didn’t bother to read them, then made an assumption all on your own, and are continuing to put forth support for your incorrect assumption. Got it.
Just for funsies though, what time span does your “modern era GI bill” cover? Just “today?” If you’re going to make things up, sharing your definitions could make for much better discussions.

Anonymous wrote:Citizenship by birth (you become a citizen by being born in a country) is not really a thing outside Americas.

It is in most countries. What are you talking about?

It's actually not.

In fact, I think there is really only one European country that has it. Most of the countries with birthright citizenships are more developing countries.

There's really not reason for the US or Canada to have it anymore

I dont know about Canada or the "reason' you are referring to but the US has birthright citizenship b/c of the aftermath of abolishing slavery and granting citizenship to the formerly enslaved- the way that congress went about it in the 14th amendment enshrines it in our constitution and its not really policy choice and you'd have to have a constitutional convention to change it. maybe we could do that and also get rid of the 2nd amendment? j/k if we have one the union is toast. lack of basic civics - mostly die to racism and discomfort with slavery is also mind boggling.

Why should this be general knowledge? Who cares?

That is such a stupid, American thing to say.

Still waiting to hear why this should be general knowledge.

You don't think general knowledge of basic geography should be general knowledge? I stand by my earlier comment.

Korean cities should be part of general knowledge? I don’t really consider that basic geography.

Of course, you don't. Hence my previous comment. The rest of the world gets educated on things like that.

Actually, they don't. I'm european and most people have a euro-centric view that doesn't include Korean cities.

Well I happen to be European as well, and while we mostly had euro-centric education, we most certainly spent a lof of time on world geography. It's a source of pride to be well versed in history and geography.

So you are educated in resort towns throughout the world? How much time does geography class take up if you have to learn not only secondary and tertiary cities in each country, but also ski cities? Do you learn beach resorts too?

Don't know what to tell you. I'm from Sarajevo. I just know this stuff. We had the Olympics in 1984. Most educated people I talk to know where that is. Maybe it's not important to you, but it's more than a ski city or a beach resort.

Good for you. Sarajevo is a historically important city. Pyeongchang is a small city known for a ski hill. Did you learn where people ski in Taiwan too? Did you learn where people in Peru vacation?

DP. Whether anyone knows much about Pyeongchang, it should be obvious that the Olympics were not held at Pyongyang, the capital of North Korea.

You sound as thick as the person from Serevio who thinks everyone in Europe is like them.

Sarajevo, but I wouldn't expect you to know.

Oh thank God you don't expect that to also be general knowledge!

Really? You never learned about the assassination of Franz Ferdinand? Or the 1984 Olympics? Or the biggest war in Europe since WWII (well until Putin invaded Ukraine)?

I mean, ok, but I wouldn't boast about it.

DP.
....we should all know and care because....?

Yeah, don't need to know; don't care.

are you kidding me- there is about to be a war between Serbia and Kosovo-- which you really should have an opinion about b/c when you vote for your congress people they will have an opinion about it which will influence how they choose to spend your tax dollars since you know the country you live in was "the leader of the free world" and the biggest economy on earth plus a very populous country - the only wealthy populous country and has a lot of influence on world affairs which makes us the only wealthy populous country... (as in interfering in other countries makes ordinary Americans wealthy) and yes- knowing the history of teh balkans is still incredibly important... just like knowing about the ME.. we are more likely to get sucked into WW3 b/c of Balkans than the ME.

FMLA has nothing to do with getting paid while you use FMLA.

I was just trying to explain to a family member, who had covid in August and is experiencing lingering complications (38 yo and did not get pneumonia but gets short of breath just talking) and explaining that her short-term disability (13 weeks) with possible long-term disability has nothing to do with FMLA (which she was also required to do paperwork for).

FMLA, where it applies, just means they have to keep you as an employee if you return by the time the 12 weeks are up. Longer than that, maybe you get an income (depending on your benefits) but it's up to them if they keep you on as an employee.

I wish more people understood how government regulations come to be.

If you listen to many people, especially many conservative pundits, they seem to think the government has a bunch of bureaucrats sitting around in a vacuum with nothing better to do than to dream up dumb ways to make business owners miserable. That's 99.9% untrue.

Regulations are based on legislation passed by the legislature, for example federal agencies have to figure out how to implement laws passed by Congress. The language in the law is what the regulation is based on. And agencies are typically not proactive - regulations typically don't come out of a vacuum, nor do they typically come from some kind of imagined grievances, they typically come about as a result of actual repeated abuses by industry or individuals. And they typically go through executive branch review from Office
of
Information
&
Regulatory
Affairs
(OIRA) and rounds of review and input from the public and industry, it takes a long time.
