There's really not reason for the US or Canada to have it anymore[/quote] I dont know about Canada or the "reason' you are referring to but the US has birthright citizenship b/c of the aftermath of abolishing slavery and granting citizenship to the formerly enslaved- the way that congress went about it in the 14th amendment enshrines it in our constitution and its not really policy choice and you'd have to have a constitutional convention to change it. maybe we could do that and also get rid of the 2nd amendment? j/k if we have one the union is toast. lack of basic civics - mostly die to racism and discomfort with slavery is also mind boggling.
