This whole saga is interesting but you gotta admit his behavior is typical American male adventurism. Throw a rock in another country and then hide your hand/ cry wolf.

One poster mentioned race--so a bunch of you decided that this was an anti white thread.

I'm white--so, yes, I find that ludicrous.

I made the grandma comment because only a person with advanced dementia could miss the obvious sarcasm in the previous post to that statement.

Moronic yes, you'd have to be to cling to the clear and convincing evidence that Lochte made the entire thing up--he destroyed the bathroom. He became violent and the drew guns to restrain him. They paid 50 US in restitution. That's it. No robbery! To keep insisting otherwise in the face of all the evidence is yes, moronic.

Yes, everyone who disagrees with you is an old, crazy moron. There can be no other explanation for someone disagreeing with you.

I want to ask you how old you are. But I don't think it would wise to continue to engage with you.

Yeah. But rich tourists do that in this country and others, too. Because he's a swimmer, we're all thinking that he was acting like a swim bro. Really, I think he was acting like a multimillionaire.

I'm imagining there would be Venn diagrams that would be interesting to you.

I've been trying to figure out why the story changed so much, but when I watch the video it's pretty clear that they're wasted and probably can't remember exactly what happened. Then there are the reports of camera footage of them returning to their residence seemingly unfazed. I've been mugged and can recall how I was relieved I was that the whole thing was over. I think they were drunk and may or may not have done something worthy of penalty. People who observed their state (in the video, there were several men standing around watching them as they went into the restroom and came out) saw an opportunity and took it. The swimmers couldn't remember what they'd done, couldn't process what was happening, felt ashamed then relieved to be out of there. The story got muddled in the retelling.

I'm sure Brazilian police see this happening all the time, but this time it was in international press and they had to save face. Except now they've made the situation a hundred times worse than it needed to be. The people they're accusing had left the country or were about to, without pressing charges.

This. It's been years since I was going out, getting wasted, and possibly doing stupid shit. I will say that Lochte needs to grow up. Unbecoming in a grown man. Maybe it's time to get a real job.

He has a real job. He's an Olympic swimmer. Would you say that Phelps needs to "get a real job"?

Phelps is on track to be a coach, and Arizona was smart to nab him.

Whoaaaa. How is this one topic so many pages long? Is it worth reading all of these?

My opinion though, Ryan's not a deep thinker. I think we all know that. So he got caught up with hookers and blow, big deal. There's way worse things going on.

So is Lochte

Anonymous wrote:Usain Bolt and Ryan Lochte have the same arrogant attitude but somehow with Ryan this ends up a cute story about a little boy lost and robbed (depending on who you ask) in Rio. If this had been Usain Bolt he would be crucified, vilified and everyone would be saying how terrible of a crime and person he is.

To compare Usain Bolt to Lochte is ridiculous. Usain does his show because he thinks a part of sports is entertaining the crowd and having fun with them (see how Ali was when he was young). Bolt has a much more playful and respectful personality than Lochte. If Bolt did do something like this, he should be held accountable and would be vilified, and not because he's black, but because people have put him on a pedestal and, as such, he has an obligation to act responsibly. I doubt very much you understand Bolt's persona and how he's viewed throughout the world if you think he and Lochte are on par. Bolt is viewed as a fun loving athlete who does his best to entertain the crowd, and Lochte is viewed as an attention seeking douche who's not the sharpest tack in the drawer (which he managed to reinforce with his current behavior).

There is no more doubt. I believe Brazil tv footage and even the US OC apologized, which it would not do if there was a chance the 'foursome' had some truth in their story

It is a shame that they will be remembered for this instead of their swimming achievements

It's a shame they were robbed at gunpoint with video footage yet people don't believe them.

Or they are doing what they have to do publicly to try and get their swimmers home.

I agree with her characterization of Lochte, but her ass kissing of Brazil is a bridge too far. It is still a crime infested country where just the other day, an Australian athlete was ordered to take cash out of an ATM during a robbery. Also, in this incident, a nut job security guard DID pull a gun on the swimmers because they were being "violent." Well, they were all sitting in a car, so how violent could they have been? The author downplays this as a slight overreaction. I know that lefties in the media are supposed to show their adoration for every third world country, but get real!
