How to tell another parent on the team to shut the F#%k up

OP here, thank you. I shared because I needed to vent and already put things in motion to resolve this on behalf of a majority of the families on the team. I'm 1/2 latino, but don't look it so this would not be the first time I've been called racist (fill in with white comment if needed) and I'm ok with it since the purpose of my vent had nothing to do with race. I probably should have picked a forum where everyone can't hide behind a generic User ID.

Did you happen to suggest to the father that "he doesn't look like he went to college" when you confronted him? I mean you were pretty tough guy here in the anonymous forum and all.

YW. Ignore the trolls. Sometimes they just pick a thread to squat on and try to find something, anything to derail.

Anyway. I would report to the team managers, perhaps say what he was saying in Spanish. Keep reporting, keep reporting, keep reporting. If you are friends with anyone else on the team, ask them to report him too

This is what you said: " in fact he paces up and down the sidelines screaming in spanish/english at the kids (including his own)." There is no mention of cursing or foul language. You never made any of the words that the father said known or relevant. You stated that he is "screaming in spanish/english". Please tell us what the relevance is to his screaming in Spanish that it needed to be pointed out? Again, you made no claim that he was using Spanish as a dodge to allow him to curse and get away with it.

Because people of "Latin heritage" are never racist about other Latinos.

I'm fluent enough in spanish to know what he's saying would go over well with the refs and therefore knew what he was doing wouldn't be tolerated. To the other comment about approaching him and saying I didn't think he played in college. I didn't need to, I told him to let the coaches coach. The fact you genius choose to highlight these parts of my post also shows you ignored the rest of my comments that I did approach him so that clearly states i'm not fearful of my life, but I'm not going to create a scene in front of the kids. Remove the children from the equation and we have a different approach. Enough of you tough guys out there to cover for the rest of us. I don't need to fight verbally/physically to prove my point, I've done enough of that serving this country and have chosen not to let my child's soccer field become a battle ground.

If it makes you feel better OP, the same loon(s) from this thread are currently posting on the "why have so many celebrities straightened their hair" thread, saying that someone who said they don't like curly hair is racist.

So... just be aware that you aren't the only one on the receiving end of this idiocy, and that others see it for exactly what it is.

Not sure if this is common in all leagues, but when my kids were younger and played in WAGS and NCSL, each team was required to have a team sportsmanship liaison. We got special badges and everything. It was our job to talk to the ravers or anyone else causing a problem on the sidelines. If your team doesn't have such a thing, and the coach is too wimpy to step in, I agree with the advice to get the TD involved. I'm surprised that the refs have allowed this to happen though--they are usually pretty forceful with parents like that.

None of that addresses why pointing out that he was screaming in Spanish was relevant. isn't the fact that he was screaming the only thing of issue? And no you didn't accuse him to his face of likely not being college educated, you saved that for the anonymous forum.

No feeding the troll! It's just one. Ignore.

NCSL still has this.

This could be a cultural difference and his antics could be perfectly acceptable in his culture but not here. I would talk to the coach, since you already tried to talk to him, it should fall on the coach to deal with this.

We have a parent that thinks he's Messi and can't wait to coach the kids, in fact he paces up and down the sidelines screaming in spanish/english at the kids (including his own). Fearing for his health I told him to relax and let the coach....coach. He said these kids aren't doing this right and how that's not the right way to play the ball. He claims to have played college ball, but from the looks of him I can't even tell he went to college. We had a tournament over the weekend and after the second game I could not take anymore. I walked up and asked nicely that the families weren't comfortable with his sideline antics and that I personally felt the refs targeting out kids because of him. He then asked who and I told him I was one and that was all that counted. He took that as me trying to challenge him. I walked away and on the second day he was a bit better, but still a nut job. I don't know what else to do and none of the other families are doing anything but complaining to each other about his behavior. Team manager is great, but chicken shit. I don't want it to get violent, but I'll admit it has crossed my mind. Coach has asked him to chill a few times with little improvement.

Before you judge, I've actually moved away a few times so I don't have to hear it, but when the players are actually acknowledging this idiot and looking away from the game it pisses me off.

Bolded the statement that is the root of it all. I get a feeling if you thought he was your "equal" your attitude would have been different. You should relax and let the coaches coach. Which includes dealing with obnoxious parents on sidelines.

+1

OP is the one who needs to "shut the F#%k up".

Eh. OP has threatened to get violent on this other parent and disbelieves that he went to college, based on his looks and language, presumably. Of course OP is the sane one and we are the loons.
