I read it as further proof that he's really worked up about the game. He's so agitated that he slips into his native language. The college crack- well, that part was offensive. |
|
I'm the original poster and no, i'm not racist. My mother is from Belize so please let that silly idea go. He yells at his kid in spanish so the refs doesn't hear him cursing. As for the college comment, it was more about his soccer IQ (slince he claims to have played) as opposed to his appearance.
I did just receive an email from the TD and he will be coming to a few of the games to observe. His son is actually a really nice kid and feel bad seeing him get verbally abused during the game, I assume the ride home is even worse. I just wanted to vent here, I'm going to invest in some BOSE headphones for the games! |
Look, the only way his yelling in Spanish is at all relevant to your case is if he is cursing in Spanish and not in English because he feels he can get away with it. Other than that if he is yelling and being derogatory it doesn't matter what language and it is immaterial. Your making a point that he also yells in Spanish is a very passive aggressive racist rant. But, for all you know he could be yelling I love in Spanish. So either you speak Spanish and you know what he is yelling in Spanish or you don't speak Spanish and he is yelling God knows what in a another language threatens you because you don't know what he is saying? |
|
"But from the looks of him I can't even tell he went to college."
Cut the crap, OP: we all know this was not a statement about his soccer IQ. |
|
Agree that OP's rant was racist.
I'm a long-term parent of athletes and I can assure you that out-of-control parents on the sidelines cross all sorts of language boundaries. There was no need for OP to give all the detail about Spanish and college. It could have been any language. Racist. |
|
As a foreigner who speak in my native language to my children, CAN YOU PLEASE LET THIS FAKE RACISM GO? I'm not Spanish, but would absolutely recognize Spanish swearing. OP is not racist or elitist, let it go. She heard him swear in his native language, she heard him yell, he's not even a good coach, end of story. OP has a very legitimate complaint, and it looks as if it is being heard. There is nothing worse than a screaming parent at a match - destroys everyone's enjoyment. |
Not op, but can't you read, or are you so uneducated yourself that you think people can't recognize swearing in Spanish? |
No, it doesn't matter if the parent is cursing in English, Spanish or Greek. Especially here, in this forum where the OP is just asking for advice on how to handle the situation. Again, the only part that is relevant is that he is ONLY cursing in Spanish because he thinks he can get away with it. Other than that, the language doesn't matter. All the OP had to say is "We have a nutjob parent on the team who is yelling and cursing at the game. He hasn't been called out by the coach or refs because he curses exclusively in Spanish and they are unaware of what exactly he is saying." |
So she could have just said that he was swearing, then. The racism is the insistence that the language matters to the story. It absolutely does not. There are plenty of jerk parents who swear in a multitude of different languages, and saying it was Spanish is irrelevant but racist detail. |
NP. Please. If the other dad was yelling in Swedish I'm sure OP would have mentioned it too. Your fixation on grasping at straws for racism here is laughable and making your case worse |
Except OP's mother is from Belize, so OP does know what is being said in Spanish. |
Modern day society where you folks break down every word and use it to align with your personal beliefs. I'm sorry I couldn't state my frustrations in a way that could accommodate everyone's interpretations of what is right/wrong. My key point is that there is a crazy person on our sideline and I don't need him gone, I just need him to tone it down. If that is a racist comment, so be it. I give up with you people. Have fun breaking this down word for word, I'll make sure to pass it through my publisher for review next time. |
All OP had to say was "We have a nutjob parent on the team who is yelling and cursing at the game. He hasn't been called out by the coach or refs because he curses exclusively in Spanish and they are unaware of what exactly he is saying." He doesn't need to qualify his Spanish speaking credentials. |

I'd imagine most of us are more interested in the topic at hand rather than trying to determine whether someone we don't know is racist, so let's consider this:
1. Are other parents similarly annoyed? Could a group of parents go over and tell him to shut up so it's not some dude mansplaining to one lone woman why it's necessary to scream at the kids all day? 2. Some refs may stop a guy like this. Most will not. Most refs in this area try to be as uninvolved as possible. |
| If we are going to be fixated on race, I personally find it racist that many are attacking OP, who is a person of Latin heritage. How dare you derail his thread and try to lecture and condescend to him on race? Absolutely despicable. You should all be ashamed. |
