I would not trust High Times for biblical scholarship. The actual research is that cannabis extract is found in annointing oils of that time. But cannabis includes all varieties of hemp. The colonists grew hemp for fiber. Anyone who has used jute has handled a form of cannabis, but The psychoactive chemical THC is not present in medicinal quantities in most forms of cannabis. On top of that, it seems highly unlikely that anyone got high by rubbing oil on their skin.

I believe in liberal jesus, but this is pretty far out there.

Jute is from the genus Corchorus. It is not a form of cannabis.

Not a typo...wanted to differential the species so as not to confuse homosexuals with the monkeys they got aids from.

There is a long history of Christian left, including the abolitionists in the slavery period and the Berrigan brothers in the Viet Nam War era. But given how the teachings of Jesus lend themselves to the liberal agenda, I find it disappointing that the "Christian" right gets so much more press.
