It did not exist in biblical middle-east. It came from the new world. He was OK with wine, though.

You are ill-informed. Cannabis was well known in the ancient world. See for example Herodotus' discussion of the Scythians and Thracians' use of it.

Jesus is not socially conservative. Find a position that is socially conservative - other than his prohibition on divorce, which is routinely ignored by conservatives and liberals alike.

When I divorced I researched this. I think Jesus said a man could divorce his wife for adultery. I decided that as a woman, I got this pass, too. So I divorced my cheater.

Yes, that is true. I was pointing out the irony that the one truly conservative position Jesus took - divorce - is freely ignored by Conservative christian churches.

But yes, he did carve out adultery. Glad you got rid of the cheater.

Even Paul spends way more time complaining about the un-generous and un-loving than he does about teh gheys.

So if you're not spending 20x the time helping the poor that you are fighting teh ghey agenda, you're doing it wrong.

Jesus freeloaded off of his parents until age 30.

Paul had hangups with the body/spirit. Peter did not. These were two individuals spreading Christianity. But they are not quoting Jesus.

The life of Jesus is recorded in four gospels, at least one of which was written independently of the others. Had Jesus' priority been to condemn homosexuality, he had ample opportunity to do it. He did not, so at best his position is unknown.

One can say that the gospels do not record Jesus' thoughts on slavery or gender equality. True, but those were social norms. Whether he did not address them because people were unready for the message, or whether the authors and editors did not include his statements because of fear of backlash from Roman or Jewish society, we will never know.

But one thing is certain. Homosexuality was not a social norm of the day. If Jesus wanted to comment, he could have done so without consequence. And clearly the editors of the New Testament would not have excluded such a statement, since Paul's comments exist.

This leaves us with no statement from Jesus on homosexuality.

He worked as a carpenter, idiot, and in those days one lived with parents until married.

Most people on the planet still do. It seems to be American culture that likes to kick its kids out early.

Yeah, but they married somewhere between 14 and 18. I think anyone still under their parents' roof at 30 was quite unusual back then, way moreso than now.

NP here - Jesus is totally a liberal. Thanks for this.

I agree that Paul is not Jesus.

Let's not forget what a bunch of spineless, ignorant douchebags the Apostles were as well. Jesus spends nearly the entirety of the NT knocking their coconuts together. Now suddenly Jesus isn't there any longer to set them straight, and fucking *Paul* is supposed to be the moral authority??? Puh-leeze.

Definitely a liberal:

Jesus 'healed using cannabis'

Jesus was almost certainly a cannabis user and an early proponent of the medicinal properties of the drug, according to a study of scriptural texts published this month. The study suggests that Jesus and his disciples used the drug to carry out miraculous healings.

I would not trust High Times for biblical scholarship. The actual research is that cannabis extract is found in annointing oils of that time. But cannabis includes all varieties of hemp. The colonists grew hemp for fiber. Anyone who has used jute has handled a form of cannabis, but The psychoactive chemical THC is not present in medicinal quantities in most forms of cannabis. On top of that, it seems highly unlikely that anyone got high by rubbing oil on their skin.

I believe in liberal jesus, but this is pretty far out there.

It is not at all unusual in many Asian and South American cultures for extended family to live under one roof, even after they marry.

Wow, this thread is three pages long, and I have yet to see a direct quote from Jesus that is a truly conservative position.

I saw a lot of Old Testament and some guy who would like to pretend that the Old Testament = Jesus' words, even though Jesus himself contradicted OT law.

I saw a few people clinging to Paul, hardly infallible and not always in agreement with Peter.

Then there was the crazy guy who likes to think graphically about gay sex. It probably turns him on, which is why he writes so vividly about it.

But as for actual Jesus quotes, I saw nothing.

Jesus is a liberal. Tell your pastor. Case closed.
