One of them is lying to me - the cleaners or the neighbor

OP thinks that the cleaners are smoking pot at 7:30 am but there’s no way that the very nice ex druggie next-door could be doing the same.

OP here Mexican cleaners are nice too. I just don't interact with them as much as I do with neighbors.

It's just hard to believe that the neighbor girl would be risking it with her family being at home this time of the morning. She could have waited a couple of hours when they left to work/school and smoked all she wanted to.

Honestly, I don't know what to think. People sometimes do the craziest things. I'm not taking anything off the table.

Why is it easy to believe that the teenaged cleaner is willing to "risk it" IN FRONT OF her mom, and at work, but hard to believe that a known drug user would use drugs at an ill-advised time?

Just because you seem entirely too simple to understand what was going on here: no one was smoking weed that morning. Your neighbor's daughter saw these people who do not live in the neighborhood and are easy to scapegoat, and told her mom that they smelled OVERWHELMINGLY of pot smoke, so much so that it was everywhere in the neighborhood and even in her own garage (!!!!) that they never walked into (!!!) because she knew her dumb racist mom and dumb racist neighbor would take the bait and she'd have a ready-made excuse for the next time it smells like pot. The end.

This is awful. It sounds like you accused your cleaner with absolutely no basis just because they are Mexican. And you believed your neighbor with zero evidence just because they are white middle class. How do you not see this?

100% Exactly what I was thinking.
And who texts someone to tell them what to do or not do on their own time. I hope the MEXICAN cleaners quit and sue you.

OP here. I doubt it. It was 7:30AM. Her mother and sister were in the house. You are saying she was smoking and then she told her mom out of the blue that it was the cleaners who conveniently just arrived?

The other option is that it was 7:30am and your cleaners, a mom and her own daughter nonetheless, decided to hotbox in your driveway. That's also something you might question before accepting as truth.

Who the heck smokes weed with their parent? At work?

Why would the daughter lie about it unless she hid drugs in your garage to avoid her parents or was smoking weed in your garage and needed to cover up her lies?

Why even tell the cleaners unless you think your neighbor is a racist who is going to try to get them deported?

Obviously, someone was smoking with their parents present. Either the neighbor or the cleaner. Both had parents present.
Our garage stays closed. She doesn't have access to our garage.

I confronted them because the neighbor who alerted me is not a drama queen who stirs things up and she was very loud and clear, without a doubt in her words.

The cleaner girl is young. It's possible she smokes sometimes. How would I know?

I’d guess it was the neighbors daughter before some Mexican cleaners. You were crazy to send that text.

Most Mexicans hate drugs because the drugs are the reason they had to leave their home countries.

This.

Also, am I the only person who wouldn't care if my cleaners smoked in their car?

OP here. I don't care if they smoke, just not near my house or in the house. The smoke gets into walls, etc. Also, I don't want them to drive in this state either.

You seem stupid. They have been cleaning your house for five years and you have never suspected any of them of smoking anything in or near your house which is probably because they weren't. So now you've lost your good workers but you still have your lyingassliar neighbors with the druggie kid. Happy?

LOL no one was smoking in front of their parents. The only person who smelled this smoke was druggie teen neighbor. Not her mom, not you, not the cleaners. I hope you don't have kids of your own; you're entirely to credulous.

OP, it boils down to this: you are not a good sleuth.

If it was the cleaners hotboxing, then they are not going to admit it over text, so why even ask over text? Totally forseeable that you shut down all conversation and scared them off.

You just wait until the following week and get your nose over there by their car, and figure it out yourself.

And for the future, know this: Past behavior is the best predictor of future behavior. So if Person A had drugs/lying in her past, and Person B has not exibited drugs/lying in the past, without further investigation, the best guess is that Person A is the lier.

I replied but now feel dumb. This has to be made up and someone is enjoying getting to play racist online?

Hey, I've lived life and I know anything is possible. I've seen it all. I know one family that started as middle class, well educated family in suburbs, white; their son became a drug addict and then the mom became a drug addict and a drinker, then younger son also started using. It ended with mother and son moving out, living and using together until he shot her by mistake (or not, I don't know).

I know families that have raging alcoholics and you could never tell looking at them in public. I've seen pillars of community getting arrested for child abuse. So, yeah, I keep an open mind.

It's hard to believe someone could make it to adulthood, and be *this* obtuse.

NP here. I think everyone overreacted. If you really like this cleaner, and I would think that you do if she has been cleaning your house well for 5 years, CALL her up and apologize and ask her if she can return, that no one will call the cops on them. Sounds like your cleaner is undocumented and afraid of being deported.

OP here. I didn't believe they would be hotboxing before cleaning, although I don't rule anything out 100%. So the scenario where a young Mexican girl was smoking weed in her car with her friends is completely out of the question? Really?

My boyfriend in college, who was addicted to weed, smoked before he got out of bed in the morning, so yes, your neighbor could have been smoking. That is much more likely than a mother/daughter duo who are (according to you) scared of deportation?

Also, why would they do it in your driveway? Makes no sense.
