"It is not accurate. There has been no blanket admonition or request from Chief Justice Roberts that the other Justices begin wearing masks to arguments. The source further stated Justice Sotomayor did not make any such request to Justice Gorsuch. Given that fact, there was also no refusal by Justice Gorsuch."

I don't expect the nay-sayers here to believe this.
Given how this rumor has spread (compliments of an uninformed NPR reporter), I would also anticipate an official statement about this story would soon come from SCOTUS.

Nina Totenberg has covered the court for decades. So believe her, or an unnamed source at Fox News? Also, if every other Justice was masked, maybe that would be a clue for Gorsuch.

Perhaps that is the problem. Some things don't improve with age.

This report just don't make sense.

First of all, it is not like Gorsuch. He is not the petty or theatrical type.
Secondly, do all the attorneys who argue in front of the court wear masks? I don't think so.... they don't sound masked in their arguments. If Sotomayor is fearful of appearing in person, it probably has more to do with "strangers" present in the court, not her colleagues.

Ugh. Your gaslighting is annoying.

Doesn't, not don't.

So you didn’t actually read any news stories.

Lawyers have to be masked up during arguments.

Gorsuch is just a raging asshole.

+1 This was all covered in the vaccine mandate thread about the oral arguments.

He was thin and worked out regularly and his blood sugar was crazy high. He basically stopped eating and still couldn’t control his blood sugar and had to go on insulin.

+1. A friend of mine runs-- and I am not exaggerating-- a minimum of 10 miles per day. He also has a high level, stressful job. He looks gaunt. And he was told he was pre-diabetic, because work got difficult and he barely ate and when he did, it was just Ramen noodles. It did a number on his blood sugar.

We tend to be sympathetic to stories like this. But other people have similar stories-- they work hard at a difficult job, like Supreme Court Justice! Only instead of running and eating noodles, they slam another kind of carb and gain weight. And this is supposed to be a crime worthy of death. I can't get on board. I'm a thin, but not too thin, very active person- but there but for the grace of God go I.

I heard you're an anonymous troll who enjoys making up stories.

There are dozens of people in the DMV who would know first hand Gorsuch from GP, and hundreds who would know his GP reputation. And GP certainly had a suburban spoiled brat reputation back then. [And, yes, I know that. Fortunately it has changed.] Whether above poster is merely a troll is a separate question.

Why should he wear a mask when it isn't mandatory and one of his colleagues didn't take care of herself? Meanwhile I spent Sunday evening in the warmth of my childhood home with my parents without masks.

Because he wrote a book lamenting the loss of civility so he looks like a complete hypocrite when he won't demonstrate civility to his own colleague.

Wouldn't expect anything less of a Republican.

And why would anyone believe a report from Fox News? Lying is their business model.

I grew up here. My brother's years at GP overlapped with Gorsuch's. He has never heard anything negative at all about Gorsuch - only how intelligent he was/is. Feel free to believe the negative assessment of someone who clearly is a Gorsuch-hater. I'm sure they're absolutely credible.

Gorsuch is an irredeemable shitbag. It takes a special level of malice to essentially give someone the middle finger over their medical conditions.

DP. PP’s account is more consistent with Gorsuch’s behavior as an adult, so I’m inclined to believe them over you.

Well then we'll all expect to hear from Gorsuch tomorrow that this story is not true and of course he will be wearing a mask for the sake of his colleague's health, he didn't realize that was why she was staying home, and it's the courteous, civil thing to do, he would never want to make an esteemed colleague feel unsafe.

Come back tomorrow to tell us all about it and how that proves what a decent human he is.
