I think not. I am betting things go much more smoothly with SCOTUS than Totenberg would like people to believe.

If you read this and look at the decisions (up until July, 2021), seems they agree more than they disagree.

The court’s decisions are not the full record of its functioning. There are thousands of cases they don’t take, bad appeals decisions they let stand because they know they can’t touch them with a 10-foot pole. And again, when you know your credibility as an institution is nearly shot and your credibility is all you have, you might be inclined to take a public face that is a complete charade and fraud.

Or, there may be a "journalist" or two with an agenda who finds a kindred soul to tell her what she wants to hear so she can draft a story to fit a narrative.
Interesting that a story like this appears when the left has been discussing making revisions to SCOTUS - including stacking the court.
I am highly skeptical - in fact - I seriously doubt that Totenberg's story is based on truth. She and NPR can "stand by the story" as much as they want, but many of us simply don't believe it and will be highly skeptical of future pieces she writes. She has lost any credibility she had.

Roberts knows that they are all adults with good decision making and critical thinking.... after all, they are on the Supreme Court. Roberts also knows they are all vaccinated and boosted and that cloth masks are worthless.
He rightly leaves these decisions up to each Justice and also allows for any Justice who is fearful of his/her health to work remotely.
IOW - he knows the science and operates appropriately.
