Pension is from the state. Teachers can retire and then work as substitutes. Don’t see why principals couldn’t do something similar. They would have a different pay structure than what they were on.

Wow, that is surprising that the state would allow that. The federal government certainly doesn’t. Surprised more principals don’t retire and then get hired back to double dip.

Because the federal government doesnt need substitutes to function?

You’re telling me that MCPS can’t function without principals serving as substitutes?

Why does MCPS continue to reward bad behavior? You can move the bad apples around all you want, but what about all of the complaints filed against them at their previous schools?!?

100%
Disappointing, yet unsurprising, to see MCPS ignore complaints from staff. Rewarding the bully is a winning choice.

Please stop being ominous. We have no idea who y’all are referring to, and it doesn’t help anybody. Thanks.

Yes, Reuben started her own consulting firm.

Weird. The email sent to MCPS staff said she accepted a job with MSDE.

Woodfield has a principal intern for the upcoming school year, and that person will probably be named Acting Principal.

She had started her own consulting firm before MCPS caught wind of it and they were not happy. She was probably encouraged to resign and subsequently, took a job with MSDE. Good for her! She's lucky she got out.

For Banneker, the acting principal will be Ahmed Adelekan, currently assistant principal at Briggs Chaney Middle School.

We loved Mrs. Schwartz at VMES. I hope she gets the job.

What is the process like for filling these acting principal positions? Do they look at a list of former principal interns who haven't been hired yet as principals?

They look at admins who are in the pipeline and for whatever reason did not get internships or are headed into one, or yes interns who were not hired as principals yet. There are interviews but it's usually about convenience, since all the candidates should already be fairly qualified, just not 100% "ready" for a principalship. Acting principals have a consulting principal mentor and are supposed to get extra support from central office. And then they have to interview for the principal position at the end of the year, along with other interested candidates. They usually get hired as the principal for the same school but not always.
