Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS)
This worked well at my kid's ES school about 10 years ago. There used to be a stable of retired principals that could fill this kind of role if needed. I was impressed by the retired principal they assigned as an AP to support our principal intern. He seemed to be an excellent mentor. |

I see Diane Morris is now acting chief of school support and wellbeing. Has Ms. Reuben left MCPS?

100% Disappointing, yet unsurprising, to see MCPS ignore complaints from staff. Rewarding the bully is a winning choice. |
| Ed Clarke was quietly pushed out as Chief Safety Officer. I think this is good, but I hope the new Chief Safety Officer, Pamela Wheeler-Taylor, is tough and serious about her job |
Some just want to be closer to home. |
Did this person work in a Fairfax? |
Probably closer to her home. |
Yes, Reuben started her own consulting firm. |
Please stop being ominous. We have no idea who y’all are referring to, and it doesn’t help anybody. Thanks. |
| If a principal retires and takes the pension, can they serve as an AP too and get the salary? MCPS is willing to pay them both their pension and their salary? |
Pension is from the state. Teachers can retire and then work as substitutes. Don’t see why principals couldn’t do something similar. They would have a different pay structure than what they were on. |
Plus, there are still kids with health or family health issues that prevent them from attending in person. |
Wow, that is surprising that the state would allow that. The federal government certainly doesn’t. Surprised more principals don’t retire and then get hired back to double dip. |
Because the federal government doesnt need substitutes to function? |
| Off topic, but there are retired annuitants in the federal government. Check OPM. They have a limited bank of hours and a limited time. Once their alloted hours are up, they go back to being retired full-time. I've seen people do it for a year or two. |
