In direct response to a federal constitutional lawsuit, this month the State of Connecticut announced an end to the race-based quota at Hartford’s world-class magnet schools. The quota unfairly — and illegally — denied black and Hispanic children access to these schools and was the target of a lawsuit filed by LaShawn Robinson and seven other Hartford parents. Now that the state has met their demands, the parents are dismissing their lawsuit.

Pro FCPS posters are lying about PLF. PLF is not a right wing organization. It has won lawsuit on behalf of black and Hispanic students. This TJ lawsuit is also filed on behalf of minority parents.

PLF is a LIBERTARIAN organization. Discrimination in education is a very small subset of the cases they take. They take cases to try and vindicate the rights of individuals from overreaching government action infringing on fundamental rights.

So what prevents an Asian self-identifying as Black or Hispanic when applying to get the Black or Hispanic "boost"? Are they going to look at the skin color and say that the "color tone" is not right?

Probably the single surest way to ensure that you don't get selected. TJ is neither required nor permitted to disclose why a student is not selected for admission - so a family that does this and doesn't get in will always have to live with the question of "maybe we'd have gotten in if we hadn't tried to pass our obviously Asian kid off as Black".

.....it really hasn't. The school will continue to be exceptional and will continue to serve exceptional learners - and will be able to be even more selective than they were previously now that access has been significantly improved. Even with the increase in class size, it's likely that the school's acceptance rate will go DOWN. What has been abandoned is the practice of allowing families to pose their students as having greater levels of intellect than they actually have through the standardized testing process and the tens of millions of dollars that are sunk into it every year in the name of TJ.

and? It's not like there isn't a sizable Indian population in any African country that used to be part of the British empire. If those families emigrate to the US they could self identify as African American. I had an Afrikaner friend in college who checked the African American box to apply, he just thought it was a sick joke
