The new system is great. It helps minimize the impact that people who buy prep classes have on admissions and gives all kids regardless of their families income a fair chance. |
Sounds like you support a simple lottery. |
That’s not what the Judge said. Don’t lie to yourself. We all know the new admissions policy is solely in place to reduce the number of Asians in hopes of increasing the number of URMs. |
That’s right. Needs to be more Asians and White kids at TJ. |
Because college sports are about assembling teams to win competitions. School admissions are not about that in any way. |
You have it backwards. The admissions policy is designed to increase the representation of students from underrepresented groups, which will necessarily decrease the number of Asian students because they are so overwhelmingly dominant. The fact that it impacts you doesn't mean it's about you. Honestly, I think most of the school board would be quite pleased with themselves if the impact were that a chunk of the white population were replaced with Black and Hispanic students with no impact on the Asians. But that's a REALLY thin needle to thread. |
You can have your intelligence then. Print your IQ score and use it in wipe your a** for all I care. If intelligence cannot be used in a productive pursuit which in turn results in the accumulation of an economic advantage to the person deploying such intelligence, what's its purpose? |
DP - the purpose of intelligence would be the betterment of society, not the accumulation of economic advantage to an individual. Attitudes like yours are the literal definition of "toxic". |
| The last few pages of this thread is a great argument for just closing TJ |
Boy are you in for a rude awakening when your kid applies to UVA. |
How so? Your argument doesn't really follow. |
I mean, whenever I have children down the road, I'll be encouraging them to do their research about what schools will be the right fits for them across a broad spectrum of metrics. Chances are the admissions environment will be much different 15-20 years down the road than it is now. One thing I won't have is misguided expectations about where they will and won't get in, nor will I be evaluating the caliber of my parenting based on their acceptances, rejections, and deferrals. I'll evaluate my parenting based on the level of effort they put into the process as well as how they handle the results - and how they make the most of whatever opportunity is afforded to them. |
So go tell URMs who were rejected from TJ to increase their level of effort (study harder & longer), accept the rejections with grace and make the most of the opportunities afforded to them by affirmative action and other measures. |
Also the popular spectator sports want to put fans in the seats and attract media coverage to generate revenue. If the players aren’t competing at a high level this translates to the school generating less money. This won’t work for the popular sports, but will never happen in the other sports because more URM’s will be let in where their is no benefit for the White Supremacists. |
1) You have no idea how much effort they put in 2) They already do accept the rejections with grace - a lot more grace than the folks on this board 3) A lot of them also make the most of their opportunities, whether or not they are supported by measures designed to account for systemic racism. You have made no points, and thus you are awarded none. |
