Personally, I don't care about the source of the money. Mr. Anwar's family needs it and deserves it. This is not the time to play politics. |
+1 We need to get over this idea that these "poor children" can all be saved and straightened out. The ones that can be reached, fantastic. The rest, well, good luck to them... And anybody who has to/wants to deal with them. |
Conservatives are generally very generous to real victims. And, Mr. Anwar's family are victims of this heinous crime. |
Seriously. It’s so condescending to assume that these kids didn’t know better. Of course they do, they just don’t care. There’s thousands of teenagers who are homeless, suffering from mental health / drug issues and come from lower income homes. Most don’t pull this kind of bullshit. Stop expecting so little of people. Your pity just makes it worse. |
+1 agree There has to be a level of personal responsibility in order for any level of help/support/outreach/program to work. Again, NOT saying to throw troubled persons or children’s to the wolves, but saying that we cannot as individuals or society devote ourselves to “saving” people who will not take personal responsibility for their actions. Teenagers have a mind and conscience. These teenagers chose to go and steal a car AND bring with them a taser! That is pre-mediated intent to use. My gosh imagine if this were your husband/father or your child who this happened to or committed this. As your own child you know in your gut that he/she must face heavy consequences to restore integrity as a trust worthy member of society. This is obviously delicate to contend with but it is the only way forward and to true personal freedom. |

In the video, after the crash and the girls are helped out of the car by National Guard troops, one of them keeps yelling that she needs help getting her cell phone out of the car because the phone is still inside the sideways, wrecked car while the victim is laying motionless next to her. He was dragged from start to finish. Not a single person in the video even goes up to his body to see if he’s alive.
OMFG. Just when I think society can’t get worse, it does. This is beyond depressing. She had just killed someone and was worried about her phone. |
Hear that? It is the sound of goalposts being moved
|

There is no fixing callousness this deep- a girl complaining about her cell phone still inside a flipped, stolen car with a man she just killed a few feet away.
And people wonder why it’s hard to get an Uber in certain neighborhoods, why people cross the street when they see a a person/group approaching, why teachers are hard to get in DC and even harder to retain. It isn’t racism, it’s removing yourself from a situation where it’s possible to get killed by two teens and then having the mayor of DC essentially victim blame you on Twitter and strangers on DCUM talk about those “poor girls.” |
Omg that video, his poor family.
I saw 3 juvenile females tase a women while attempting to snatch her purse from her a few months back a few miles from where this crime occurred. I gave a witness statement to the cops, and the cops said something to the effect of since the perpetrators were juveniles, even if the cops found the teens, they would be back out on the streets soon due to how the DC courts treat juveniles Can’t help but wonder if the teens I witnessed tasing the women are the same ones involved in this murder, and if this could have been prevented had they been locked up after that crime. |
|
Perhaps our juvenile court system needs a major overhaul. These crimes are horrible.
Geez - at age 13 I was still learning about the birds and the bees. |
Safe bet neither gal spends more than a few years in juvi, if that. |
It’s not just the court system, it’s Karl Racine too. |
The 13 yr old is the one who started the car, and pushed down on the gas pedal. She’s also the one who asks for her phone after the crash. I have a 13 yr old daughter. It blows my mind. |
The PP clearly does not practice criminal law in DC. This is textbook felony murder in the District. They were committing an armed carjacking (a felony) and this man was killed during the course of that offense. It does not matter that they didn’t intend for him to die, they intended to commit an armed carjacking and if someone dies during the course of that armed carjacking you are on the hook for felony murder. It’s not even a close call. Becuase this is DC they cannot be charged as adults and so the most they can get is a commitment to DCs juvenile justice agency until they are 21. They doesn’t mean they will be locked up until 21, only that the agency makes the decisions about what to do with them until they are 21. |
+1000. How dare you try to blame the victim, you horrible human being. Do you honestly think he had time to think logically? You are a really nasty person. |
