NP: Way too many did, and way too many condoned, even incited, their behavior. |
If you asked all Americans about Ukraine I am pretty sure this would be the results: 90% unable to find it on a map 90% know no one from Ukraine 95% know nothing about its history That being said 95% would say they support giving them weapons to fight Russia. Nothing really to do with Ukraine. Why? Americans just hate Russia and Russians in general. Not that we know any typically, it’s just our thing. If aliens invaded earth we would probably side with the aliens if they attacked Russia first. |

I have not read the entire thread so this may have been asked.
It appears that the strength of the Russian military has been greatly exaggerated. I dare say that most of the world believed that Russian military might was close to, or same, as the US. Ukraine recovering territory from Russian troops basically waving a white flag. How could Putin have made such a disastrous decision? I |
800 billion budget vs 65 billion budget? Who would think that was close? |
Also, for decades Putin has killed anyone in Russia who didn't agree with him. That means that he's getting bad information so he isn't properly informed and able to make good decisions. |
You're so wrong about Americans' motivations to support Ukraine. It's not because they hate Russia, it's because they hate bullies. Ukraine did nothing wrong to provoke this invasion. Frankly, I think you already know this, but you're just trying to spread propaganda to influence people. |
It’s always this way. You hype the future enemy and you sell more F22 and Gerald R. Ford-class aircraft carrier. You don’t order those things if your opposition is a 3rd world ww2 modeled military. |
It's because they treat their troops like crap. If our military was run by all the republicans who complain that we treat our troops too softly, it would perform the same as Russia's. |
+1 What Russia is doing is indefensible. |
+100 Also, Americans love an underdog story. We love the lowly Indiana Hoosiers upsetting the big dogs to win an NCAA championship. We love a David slaying a Goliath. We love the scrappy Americans colonialists or scrappy Irish fighting off the British colonial powers. Ukraine is definitely the underdog in this fight. |
1. Putin has his own weird imperialist world view that (erroneously) sees Ukraine as historically belonging to Russia. 2. Putin wanted/needed the public support for his regime that a successful military venture would provide, especially after his inadequate response to Covid. 3. Putin is germaphobic and has been insanely isolated during/since Covid, so he's been alone to ruminate and obsess about 1 and 2 4. The Orthodox Church is led by a right wing nationalist who is always in Putin's ear, further stoking 1 and 2. 5. Putin is surrounded by yes men who told him Ukraine would welcome its "liberators." 6. Russia has spent a ton of money in the last 20 years on its military, leading Putin to believe that he had a military capable of defeating Ukraine. 7. Russian corruption in the military is so pervasive that money and supplies have been siphoned off at every level for years, leaving it poorly equipped and poorly trained. 8. Putin believed that the West wouldn't give any meaningful help to Ukraine, since no one stopped him from a string of previous military actions in both Ukraine and elsewhere. 9. Putin thinks the West is feckless and that modern, democratic values make countries weak, so he fundamentally does not understand what Ukraine and the West feel is at stake. There's probably more, but that's what I can think of off the top of my head. |
99% Americans don't know anything about the relationship between Ukraine and Russia. Independently, they don't know anything about who did what wrong. They were told what to think. Come on. |
I don't know. The Bahraini Shias were definitely the underdogs in their uprising when they asked for more government representation. But Americans didn't love them. Why? They haven't been told to love them. Also, brown people messing with their own? Meh. |
Also, America as a country is not at all motivated to support Ukraine. It's a policy decision driven by political calculations and fed to the masses after pretty packaging. No one is motivated to help anyone but their own, and America is no exception. |
Russia started bombing Ukraine, killimg amd raping Ukrainian civilians. What else does anyone need to know? Come on. |
