Soviet doctrine of "full mobilization". This was common knowledge for cold war era. It seems this knowledge has been lost? They'll need the troops to manage the population / refugees, ensure defenses are sufficient that their strategic nuclear sites can't be easily overrun, things like that. IF they were invading Ukraine, 300K would be appropriate. But if the 1m is correct and the 300K is a deception op, then I do think nuclear war prep is more likely. Do the math. Russian's can't house, feed, equip, train 300K troops overnight, let alone 1m. Do you think the Russians have 21m meals a week lying around? Or 1m army cots, let alone 25,000 field tents? Even at 80K rubles ($667/month - private's pay) that's still 667m a month. Where does that money come from? |

^^ if you don't know this stuff, I'd recommend reading the entire article. There's more but it would take too long to explain it to you. In short, if Putin really did mobilize for 1m, I think he's preparing to launch nukes.
"Stability of the Wartime Economy. Soviet passive defense efforts include measures to maintain essential production and service seven during a nuclear war. Elaborate plans have been set for the full mobilization of the national economy in support of the war effort and the conversion to wartime production. Reserves of vital materials are maintained, many in hardened underground structures. Redundant industrial facilities have been built and are in active production. Industrial and other economic facilities have been equipped with blast shelters for the workforce, and detailed procedures have been developed for the relocation of selected plants and equipment. By ensuring the survival of essential workers, the Soviets intend to reconstitute vital production programs using those industrial components that can be redirected or salvaged after attack." https://irp.fas.org/dia/product/smp_84_ch2.htm |

^^ And Putin is just executing the playbook, line-by-line, announcing every step. Unfortunately, he probably doesn't realize that the current U.S. policymakers were too stupid and didn't read the Soviet doctrine military manuals.
That's what you get for hiring flower children who do well at Happy Hour instead of professionally-trained experts. |

^^^ and this is why I think the FBI needs to start arresting Russian agents. Putin is former KGB. I would read these to understand what his 9-to-5 used to be.

You really think the US and European governments don't know all this, after everything we did during the Cold War? You're very strange. Please understand that what goes on inside the Oval Office with DoD and CIA will NOT be splashed on the news. Governments always project calm. They distract. Biden is not going on the news to tell you that Putin is about to launch a nuclear war. Governments are making plans in secret. Now if you want to explain to the average clueless civilian, sure. But don't claim that government officials are not preparing for every scenario. Because they are. |
He couldn’t get a ticket out of Moscow.

| I noticed the link to the new Russian first strike sub was deleted. Anyone know why? I would think DCUMS would want to support Ukraine and not Russia by hiding the info? |
Wow your post is so naive and idiotic. No Putin is upset his lackey Trump is no longer in power. Trump was going to withdraw from NATO and would have shipped aid to Putin not the Ukraine. You have more credibility posting about fake laptops and pedophile rings. |
I highly doubt that PP goes down |
Lol. The Russian army was about to collapse. The contract army was about to go home. Mobilization forces them to stay while the sham referendums allow conscripts to be sent to Ukraine. They're just desperately trying to hold on. It's all short term thinking. Just trying to survive until Spring at this point. One last chance at hoping the energy blackmail will cause Europe to split. |
| If Russia was preparing for WW3 then they wouldn't have removed their anti-aircraft weapons from the border with NATO. |
EU is saying they are already ahead on their winter gas reserve. |
| I am rolling my eyes over here, Russians interviewed in the street were all, "I trust Putin knows what he is doing" and now that they are being called up they're all, "How do I get out of Russia or break my arm". No sympathy |
Correct. I, a pro-Ukrainian French person, have every sympathy for the Russian people, and do think we need to offer humanitarian visas. They already protested the war in the Spring, and got beaten up, threatened, put in jail and fined. But as usual, it's the poor people who will suffer: the ones who cannot afford plane tickets, who don't have cars to leave the country. Dozens of thousands of Russian men will die for a delusional war they didn't want for a leader they never liked. Just because their suffering pales in comparison with what the Ukrainian people is collectively suffering, it doesn't mean they deserve it. Putin should be tried for a genocidal war against Ukraine AND putting his own people in grave physical and economic jeopardy. |
Macron definitely should offer visas but it might hurt his friendship with Vova. OTOH a visa wing matter if you’re not permitted to leave Russia. |
