Need good news! Anyone have any updated news on how ppl are doing once vaccinated in terms of not getting Covid? |
Here’s a small tidbit:
https://www.barrons.com/amp/articles/pfizer-will-test-a-pill-to-kill-the-covid-19-virus-51616517725?mod=ampMP Pfizer has started a Phase 1 trial of a pill that could foil the Covid-19 virus, the company said Tuesday. The experimental drug inhibits enzymes essential to the replication of the SARS-CoV-2 virus; many successful antiviral drugs against HIV and hepatitis C work the same way. |
Europe resumed vaccinations. |
Any updates? |
It's been hard with the latest news, increasing cases in the North, J&J manufacturing fiasco, etc. but I did go to Dr. Monica Gandhi's twitter feed this morning and saw that she feels herd immunity may be achieved at 60%. https://twitter.com/MonicaGandhi9/status/1377436949225512963 Also the CDC Director saying that vaccinated people do not carry the virus. Yay! https://www.businessinsider.com/cdc-director-data-vaccinated-people-do-not-carry-covid-19-2021-3 And in personal news, I got my first Moderna vaccine yesterday. ![]() |
Yesterday's good news: First trials show that Pfizer vax is safe and effective in 12-15 year olds.
https://www.cnn.com/2021/03/31/health/pfizer-vaccine-adolescent-trial-results/index.html I'm guessing that they used the same dose as for adults, in which case vax of 12+ can get underway whenever availability permits. Above news that people with vax do not / are exceedingly unlikely to transmit is also huge as it removes the worry that a vaccinated person can become infected and then transmit to other household members. US vaccine progress is good, notwithstanding yesterday's J&J news. Over half of the 65+ population is fully vaccinated, and >70% have at least one shot. Deaths and cases in nursing homes have plummeted. Yes, cases are going up, but are still far, FAR below winter levels. Prediction: deaths will likely go up starting in a week or so (consistent with previous waves). Expect much to made of this development in the media even though it is predictable. Additional prediction: this wave of cases/deaths will be much milder because so many people are vaccinated, especially in high-risk groups. So transmission should be lower and also the people getting sick should be (on average, of course) in the less-vulnerable groups. Last prediction: by the end of this month, the norm will be that vaccines are easy to get and the focus will have shifted from hunting for vax to persuading those who don't want it. |
Beach trip with mom. Friends from out of state planning visits. Sat on a crowded plane and didn't worry about getting sick. |

I’m almost reluctant to cite CNN because they can be so over the top with drama, but:
https://www.cnn.com/2021/04/01/health/pfizer-covid-vaccine-efficacy-six-months-bn/index.html CNN)The ongoing Phase 3 clinical trial of Pfizer/BioNTech's coronavirus vaccine confirms its protection lasts at least six months after the second dose, the companies said Thursday. The question of how long vaccine protection lasts can only be answered once enough time has passed, and while six months of protection is a modest target, it's longer than previously known. The study is continuing and future updates may reveal more about how long and how strong this protection is. |
I wanted to share this with you all, because some were so thoughtful and supportive.
https://www.nytimes.com/live/2021/04/04/world/covid-vaccine-coronavirus-cases Covid-19: With Big Vaccine Push, Navajo Nation Has Tamed Virus We were once leading the country as a COVID-19 hot spot, and I think our fatality rate is somewhere around 1 in 130 of the population. This was devastating. If the same rate held for the entire US, it would be about 2.5 million deaths. But now we have a really strong vaccination rate, even moreso amongst the elders (more than 90%). We are catching up children on standard well care in the clinics again. And we went 24 hours with no deaths and no new cases and no fatalities. ![]() People still mask, stay home, and are careful. The Navajo Nation curfew remains in effect from 9pm to 5am, seven days a week. https://nativenewsonline.net/currents/navajo-nation-curfew-continues-to-stop-spread-of-covid-19#:~:text=WINDOW%20ROCK%2C%20Ariz.%20%E2%80%94%20The%20Navajo%20Nation%E2%80%99s%20curfew,Covid-19%20vaccines%20during%20drive-thru%20events%20or%20by%20appointment. |
^^deaths and fatalities are the same, but joy leads to typos ![]() |
Deaths continue to plummet in the US. How come no one's talking about this?

Thank you for this update. It has been so devastating for the Navajo Nation, and there is so much hope here. |
