I get you, but the fashion board never has any real fashion on it. It’s just a bunch of posters saying “that’s so fugly” and then responding with something that is, amazingly, even more fugly.

It's tough because I've gotten amazing product recommendations in the fashion and beauty forum, but it's a really terrible place to actually talk about fashion. There are so many people who just murder any normal conversation:

- the aforementioned "fashion is so shallow" posters
- the posters who are convinced everyone on the thread is in their 50s/60s, overweight, and unfashionable, and will look "ridiculous" in the most mundane clothes
- the "in Europe people dress like x" posters, especially when these people are like "In France, women wear striped Breton tees, ballet flats, and berets."
- the people who are just intensely angry about certain very popular trends and won't let it go, like the people who cannot fathom why ANYONE wears Birkenstocks or wide leg pants or side cut outs or whatever. These trends are very popular for a reason, it's fine if it's not for you.

... and so many others. Like 90% of the posters in those threads are just ANGRY and don't understand how to have a fun conversation about a light-hearted subject. They are the fashion equivalent of those guys who call into sports radio to rant and rave and make you wonder why they even watch sports, something that is ostensibly supposed to be entertainment?

I am sure it is great, but you must have some doubts to push it so hard.

I would rather hear about people praising their own school, than grown adult trying to disparage another person's choices. If you did not get admitted to a school that is fine, but we know why you are so passionate about that school, so as to try to disparage it.

Since you pursued the question - it is an anonymous mom board, you look sad and desperate. People don't take you seriously. Praising a school is one thing, disparaging another's choices is telling.

The people on the money forum who have $1m at age 35 and plan to retire.

DP. I rarely frequent the College forum, I have nothing against Northeastern (neither DC applied there, but so what), but when I do go there the booster is going hard for it. It is a little annoying and speaks of insecurity, which is undoubtedly not the intent.

The woman who for some unknown reason loathes/dislikes Norma Kamalie clothing yet she certainly loves to talk about and chime in on it.

Well most of the people on that board are overweight and grumpy so what do you expect.

Or the angry child support dad who always insists ex-wives are alienating dads and the kids should drop everything to see their dads once a month?

Twenty pages before Open Marriage guy! I was going to mention him.

There is also limerence lady who pops up very occasionally.

Is he back?! What's he been up to?

I'm adding the strident William & Mary defender from the college forum to the list

That’s a new one. We have the UVA, UMD, Northeastern nutters. Haven’t seen a w&m one yet.

Why are the same schools raised again and again - and why do you feel the need to attack posters who defend those schools?

Sounds like you are the "nutter".

Chill out.

I don’t do any of those things. Just pointing out my observations.

People who get into Harvard don't come here to vent about those admitted to GMU. Think about it.

They vent about them. Look at the threads like “the cleaning lady stole my X!” The cleaning lady was someone admitted to GMU.

Nah. Not in the College Forum. The people from Harvard don't think about the GMU people at all.

But the reverse - people who went to lesser schools do vent about those who went to top schools - too often, and too obviously.

Maybe first and foremost, the better schools teach their people to stay in their lane. More likely, they simply do not care (to the extent that those who went to lesser schools think about others).

DP. I disagree. There are posters in the college forum who insist on disparaging any school that *isn't* an Ivy or "elite." Several non-elite, popular schools are constantly dragged for no reason, except that the poster is so nasty, they find it fun to kick people around. Those are the people who are truly insecure and clearly have issues.

+1
And I love the poster who insists NO ONE wears shorts, jeans, or sneakers in Europe - that they're all just terribly sophisticated and above that. What a crock. We go to Europe every year and that's all most people wear. What a poseur.

I hate the Ask me how I know people.

The poster that is literally Triggered by everything - a dream, a mother in law, a diet, an ex boyfriend.

There is a poster who writes really long posts in the adult children, jobs & college forums about how her son with a 2.5 GPA, usually from University of Florida, learned how to golf and met someone who gave him an internship at a golf club. Usually changes the details each time. Sometimes it’s that her son learned how to play the guitar & played at some rich person’s birthday party. A couple times they’ve weaved something about Vietnam vets into it. Either way, this poster changes the details every time.

Another poster (might be the same one?) writes posts saying that she and her colleagues agree to give each other’s kids internships. Usually, she writes that post in any thread asking for advice about internships.
