Utterly irrelevant comment for what happened

Leniency and social graduation did not help this young man. And how could’ve possibly gotten student of the year ?!! 😵‍💫

What the hell are you talking about? Why should someone who helped him pursue his education feel bad? You do realize that this young man could have in fact been a good, high achieving student who showed true promise? I understand the desire to "other" people who do horrific things, but the reality may well be that he was deserving of his student of the year award when he got it. And sadly, his life took a turn for the worse due to mental illness and access to guns. Are you really saying that we should give up on kids who get into trouble for any reason and never give them opportunities? Just stop.

He had a reckless driving charge. Hit and run. Fighting and concealed weapon.

You would vouch for him? With all of the students who want to go to UVA?

The day of the killing he may have had a psychotic break, but it sounds like he was problematic for years.

Not sure what you are reading but from what I’ve seen,
it actually sounds like he excelled for years.

Read 17:15 and others like it above

UVA will be sued, but it will be because they dragged their feet dismissing the shooter after he had those charges, not because a professor invited all the students from her other classes on this trip.

UVA's endowment is $14.5 billion.

Good, because one of the students who died was an NFL prospect.

Even if sued -and no one knows the facts yet - the judgment comes out if UVA’s insurance and reinsurance policies - not the endowment. But it’s too early to be making irresponsible statements like that.

They are affiliated with NY Post and are the only ones apparently digging into this story. Have a nice day.

The Daily Mail is tabloid trash and not a valid news source. Have a nice day.

The stuff you mentioned seemed to happen after he was already at UVA and he didn’t tell them.

My gut says the "people were picking on me" + video game comments speak more to schizophrenia/paranoia than any actual conflict with these guys.

Our teen son plays those streaming video games and everyone in the group playing amongst each other talks crap over their mics. It can be really, really cruel and vile. If it is really related to an old hazing incident, often the worst hazing is sexual in nature, so is it possible someone brought up a horrific hazing allegation (true, half true, not true - who knows) when talking crap during the video game and re-opened deep years old trauma? You don’t really ever get over bullying.

And it’s just a coincidence that he had a gun on him?

+1. Yeah, it’s definitely waaaaaay too dangerous to go out to a PLAY and to eat in a college town. Obviously he had to be packing.

So many excuses being made. Pathetic.

All of the deaths are sad. ALL of them.

Thank you, Captain Obvious. The PP was talking about the amounts of awards in civil lawsuits where one person was on track to have an earning potential of multiple millions of dollars.

I wonder if this will be the end of the UVA football season for the year. Anyone know?

Virginia has a state law that caps lawsuit awards against the Commonwealth at $100k.

Most likely. This weekend is canceled. The final game would be at Virginia Tech (they always in the season playing each other). The team is traumatized. Fans/students are too. I can’t imagine doing the final game at an away stadium.

Exactly my sentiment. The rest of the season should be the absolute last after thought at this point. The mental and emotional health of everybody at UVA and their families comes first.

Glad they cancelled, and hope they don't play the VT game. Those boys need to go home for Thanksgiving and be with their loved ones.

UVA announced this morning that it will hold a memorial on Saturday

I'm a UVA grad here and I have always been troubled by UVA's student run honor system. Professionals should be handling this sort of thing, which includes getting students the help and resources they need.
