Heartbroken for the UVA community, my condolences for the victims' families.

I went to UVA and have family in the area; this is such upsetting news to wake up to.

At least one of the dead is a UVA player, confirmed by his father on Twitter. I'm not saying the name because of all the issues Twitter has had with false blue verification marks. However, the word from people in Charlottesville is this happened on or at the team bus when it came back from the Pitt game.

As of 4 a.m., the suspect was still at large. Multiple police agencies looking with helicopters, bloodhounds, etc.

Pitt game was a home game on Saturday afternoon. This happened late Sunday night.

Hmmm. Maybe it was some other team outing or the information is wrong.

At least two of the dead are players, however.

I feel terrible. We were at the game Saturday, drove down specifically for it. The Cavs played horribly and lost big time. I'm ashamed to say I had some unkind words for the players 😔

Even without the shooting, you shouldn’t treat college athletes that way. Do you think they want to play poorly? Good Lord!

Nothing found. Ugh. Must be so scary to be the responding officers.

Pointless to listen to scanners. There will be a lot of false sightings.

I will say that if I were a black man even remotely resembling the description I would be terrified of being shot by cops tonight.

Helpful.

True.

Check in with your kids if they have close friends at UVA. My W&M DD's best friend is at UVA and DD was up all night talking to her friend who was of course terrified. DD was pretty traumatized as a result. They are freshman and it's scary.

I'm glad they'll be home for T'giving soon.

"Run, Hide, Fight" is as ingrained with younger people as "Stop, Drop, and Roll" was to us. Sadly.

Horrible to think what these student athletes are going through. These are, essentially, kids. Given the horrors unfolding, perhaps a wake up call to the people at the gam who chose to be so meanspirited with the booing. Terrible, particularly in hindsight.

Absolutely! This!

These are college students! As a UVA alum, I'm embarrassed spectators would behave that way.

Agreed, it was the first I’ve heard that at a college game and I definitely felt awful for them.

IF this happened, it was not a widespread thing. I didn't hear any boo-ing.

Please stop the rumors about football practice. You don't know that and it shouldn't be spread.

Np. Shameful behavior. We need to do so much better as a society. UVA families, my hearts go out to you.

I’m confused. Are you saying UVA was booed off the field by the fans of the opposing team?

It happened after midnight. Stop speculating. The guy wasn't even currently on the team.
