No dog in this fight, but they had a winning season last year. I checked laxpower and it seems to be the best w/l record in many years. And they beat my son's team (SSSA) once, and only lost to SSSA by one in the IAC tournament. That won't happen again, mind you! But i thought that sta was pretty good, or at least respectable.

STA did just fine this fall. beat everyone in the fall ball league except Gonzaga who they lost to by 1 with under a minute to go. not that fall ball is as good as the spring, but it is an indicator that they will be just fine. They have multiple D1 and D3 commits (or soon to be committed) on the team. Only meaningful loss is the goalie but the offense will be MUCH better than last year and the defense will be comparable. And they have a new assistant coach (plays in MLL) who seems to be fantastic. STA came in tied for third last year and there is no reason to think they won't be just as competitive this year.

SSSA will blow sta out of the water this year. Last year was a fluke. Look for the saints to compete for thrniac this year. Kudos to them for ramping up their ooc schedule.

Lax dads aren't weird. They are just insufferable asshats reliving their Glory Days. It's the lax moms who are weird and scary. Laxpower lists 3 Albans commits - 2 2018s and 1 2019. Anemic by IAC standards. But to try to predict how well or not a team will do by the number of commits is foolhardy. Coaching and chemistry will be the key to success. Hence my prediction that Landon finishes at the top of the IAC and top 10 in national rankings when all is said and done.

May be the wrong thread to ask...but need some help here. 8th grade ds wants to play lax this spring at school. it's new for him so we'll need some equipment. he's athletic and if he falls in love with the sport, i'll invest for high school, but I'm reluctant to invest now for what could be just a few months of fun. where can I buy "gently" used lax equipment??

When our son was that age or a bit younger, I found gear that fit for sale on Craig's List at this time of year. You can also post an ISO message. He's in high school and tech has progressed so now we see it posted on our Next Door neighborhood list serve. There are a lot of kids who either leave the sport or outgrow their equipment so you should be able to find used stuff for sale.

There's a big one in Ellicott City too (intersection of 29 and 40). It has a very big selection of used lacrosse equipment; very useful.

Reminder the clinic and coaching seminar is this Sunday (2/18).

VLC is providing a free youth clinic for 8U, 10U and 12U kids as well as a coaching seminar for new and experienced youth coaches.

Do any of the IAC or WCAC schools make cuts for JV lacrosse?
Anonymous
I believe Gonzaga makes cut for both JV and freshman simply because the school is soo massive (250 boys per grade)

Wow. How many private schools have freshman lacrosse teams? Do they play other freshmen teams or play jv teams?

Are there cuts at STA for JV?

Nike/US Lacrosse preseason rankings are out for anyone interested. Three area team made the national top 25 for both boys and girls.

Landon is No. 1 nationally, Bullis is No. 11, and Gonzaga is no. 19.

On the girls side, Bishop Ireton is No. 3, Good Counsel is No. 8, and SSSAS is No. 9
